Forest Shack is a game that I have been working on for two years alongside Template88. As my first experience at designing and coding a proper game I hope that any rough edges won't keep you from enjoying the journey through its dark forest.
These once familiar woods no longer feel the same.

Known issues:
If the game slows down or has issues try using Firefox or Opera. In case of continued poor performance or graphic crashes, try disabling hardware acceleration on your browser and then restarting it. VPNs can corrupt the game files while loading. Extended playtime might cause abnormal agitation in local vermin populations. v1.1 Fixed battle music bug, made S prompts easier to handle at the start. v1.15 The slug has been nerfed. It was too powerful. Working on streamlining controls. v1.2 Changed the key to initiate the aimed shot to Space to streamline controls and improved the tutorial. Also, the worm has been punished. v1.3 Added progress medals to find where players are struggling with the difficulty spike. v1.4 The Codex has been updated to include hints to beat the hardest monsters in the game! v1.5 Doubled gold rewards for the hardest monsters. v1.6 Bone totem tutorial is live, on top of new sprites, fixes and many balance changes. Also improvements have been made to medals to decrease the odds of players timing out from the API. Then improvements were made on the improvements. Then fixes on the improvements because they broke everything. So many hours of Javascript, Emperor deliver me from this binharic nightmare.

Now your progress is saved locally on reaching a campfire up to the boss areas, so if your medal API times out or a slime tampers with the fabric of reality you can reload and continue your journey.

Even though I love the creepy/eldritch presentation this game kinda sucks as there isn't much directions on how things work which isn't always a bad thing but this time it is, and the few instructions it does give often is cryptic and hard to understand. And the boss fights have cool design but it boils down to "Did I manage to bring enough potions?" (except the floating orb where you just do nothing which is a unique concept) and this isn't really and fun experience as you can't make your potions last forever and sometimes you can go a really long time without finding a shop. Although the lack of information seems to be part of it, I think having some sort of lore or story would be better as currently there just isn't a point you just wander because why not. On the side of things I do like, is the totem system which is really cool (although some advice on what some of the Buffs/debuffs mean would be great) and the side bosses such as the Slug are fun and a good addition. I also really like the atmosphere and the eldritch feel but once again some reasoning or lore would be good. Something I found weird was the multiple choice questions that some give achievements but either I am an idiot or they are very difficult/impossible to figure out first try. I really wish this game was better and had more too it as I like the setting but currently it just has too many problems that won't get fixed as the description says this is the final version. but the creator does have some very good ideas and concepts that could really be something
Hard game but very fun. I love the monsters design and the magic system.
i really want to love this game, its creepy and beautiful... but i have no idea what im doing. there's little in the way of instructions other than how to use your special attack, there seems to be a goal but no indication of how to get there either.
the little legend in the top left corner is extremely vague and gives the bare bones of the area youre going to. the enemies get incredibly tough really early it feels like and things are crazy expensive to try and balance the totem building and getting coins.
overall i think this could be an amazing game, but i feel like im doing a lot and getting nowhere. i get its supposed to be unforgiving, but even when you die you arent sent back to the beginning of the game, youre just dropped back in to struggle in the harder areas(?)
i hope to see this be worked on more!
