"Eric & Yannik X" is a HTML5 game made by Eric Waltking (TheEric132) using GDevelop.


Plot

Don Glaber wipes out every human and animal. However, a human named Andrew survives, because Andrew became immortal after eating a golden apple. After failing to wipe out Andrew, Don Glaber, with the help of Smallglabers, Tallglabers, and Squareglabers, steals Andrew's money. Andrew tries to call law enforcement and the military, but even the law enforcement and the military has been wiped out. Now, it's up to Eric, Yannik, Kabir, Mateo, Akkha, Listrik, Berat, or Lorenzo to wipe out Don Glaber and return the stolen money to Andrew.

Playable Characters

Eric: Eric is a male humanoid robot with light skin, bright-pink "wings haircut" (Eric's bright-pink "wings haircut" is just a hairstyle, not actual wings), blue eyes, and bright-pink forearms with white hands (Eric's bright-pink forearms with white hands can turn into bright-pink arm cannons). Eric wears a bright-pink sleeveless polo neck, white shorts with a blue belt, and bright-pink shoes with white socks. Eric's primary fire is a pink fiery plasma shot coming from one of his arm cannons. Eric's secondary fire is a pink homing ball of energy also coming from one of his arm cannons. Eric has average stats.

Yannik: Yannik is a short and freckled male humanoid robot with light skin, a blond quiff hairstyle, blue eyes, and blue forearms with white hands (Yannik's blue forearms with white hands can turn into blue arm cannons). Yannik wears a blue sleeveless leotard, and blue shoes with white socks. Yannik's primary fire is a blue EMP grenade coming from one of his arm cannons. Yannik's secondary fire is a blue EMP sticky mine also coming from one of his arm cannons. Yannik's secondary fire is also mostly useless (except for defeating Don Glaber much faster). Yannik's primary fire and secondary fire are also the only projectiles affected by gravity. Yannik has high offense with low defense and mobility.

Kabir: Kabir is a male humanoid robot with medium skin, black hair, blue eyes, and green forearms with white hands (Kabir's green forearms with white hands cannot turn into arm cannons). Kabir wears a green dastār, a green short-sleeved polo neck, green pants with a blue belt, green shoes with white socks, a kara on his left arm, and a kirpan in his left hand. Kabir's primary fire is a blade of wind coming from his kirpan. Kabir's secondary fire is the same as his primary fire, but at a faster rate. Kabir is a "dastār-wearing Mona Sikh" ("dastār-wearing Mona Sikhs" are Sikhs who wear a dastār and cut their hair). Kabir has high mobility with low offense and defense. Oh, and just like all characters, enemies, and bosses, Kabir lacks a beard (or any kind of facial hair).

Mateo: Mateo is a tall male humanoid robot with light skin, purple hair, blue eyes, and purple forearms with white hands (Mateo's purple forearms with white hands can turn into purple arm cannons). Mateo wears goggles with blue lenses and blue straps and white rims, a purple sleeveless polo neck, purple pants with a blue belt, and purple shoes with white socks. Mateo's primary fire is a purple plasma shot (that is smaller than Eric's pink fiery plasma shot) coming from one of his arm cannons. Mateo's primary fire also has the fastest rate of fire. Mateo's secondary fire is a purple laser (that is as thin as his purple plasma shot) coming from one of his arm cannons. Mateo's secondary fire travels very fast. Mateo has high defense with low offense and mobility.

Akkha: Akkha is a female humanoid robot with albinistic skin, white hair, a single pink eye, and white forearms with white hands (Akkha's white forearms with white hands can turn into white arm cannons). Akkha wears a white dastār, a white dress with a pink band around her waist, a white kachera, pink shoes with white socks, and a kara on her right arm. Akkha's primary fire is a white laser (that is thicker than Mateo's purple laser) coming from one of her arm cannons. Akkha's primary fire travels very fast and also has the slowest rate of fire. Akkha's secondary fire is the same as her primary fire, but at a faster rate. Akkha is a "dastār-wearing Mona Sikh" ("dastār-wearing Mona Sikhs" are Sikhs who wear a dastār and cut their hair), but unlike Kabir (a male humanoid robot who is a "dastār-wearing Mona Sikh" with a kirpan that can create blades of wind), Akkha doesn't have a kirpan. Akkha has high offense with low defense and mobility.

Listrik: Listrik is a female humanoid robot with dark skin, a strawberry-blonde threaded hairstyle, tawny eyes, and white forearms with white hands (Listrik's white forearms with white hands can turn into white arm cannons). Listrik wears an amber short-sleeved polo neck, tawny bib-overalls with brown straps and a brown belt, and amber shoes with white socks. Listrik's primary fire is a yellow electrolaser shot coming from one of her arm cannons. Like Mateo's primary fire, Listrik's primary fire also has the fastest rate of fire. Listrik's secondary fire is a yellow homing ball of energy also coming from one of her arm cannons. Listrik has high mobility with low offense and defense.

Berat: Berat is an overweight male "hu-alien" with light skin, a black "backquiff" hairstyle, and black eyes. Berat wears a green hoodie, ultramarine pants, and green shoes with white socks. Berat's primary fire is a thrown knife. Berat's secondary fire consist of four knife thrown in a spread. Unlike other characters, Berat can also go invisible. Berat has aniridia and Cushing's syndrome, but his aniridia and his Cushing's syndrome don't hinder him. Berat has high defense with low offense and mobility.

Lorenzo: Lorenzo is a tall and underweight male hu-alien with light skin, black mid-back length hair, and black eyes. Lorenzo wears a dark-green shirt with a black tie, black pants with black suspenders, black shoes, and a ninjatō in two of his hands that turns invisible when not in use. Unlike the primary fires of other characters, Lorenzo's primary fire is a melee attack, consisting a swing from his ninjatō, without any projectiles or lasers. Lorenzo's secondary fire is a blade of wind coming from his ninjatō. Lorenzo has aniridia, and just like Berat (a male hu-alien who has aniridia but isn't hindered by his aniridia), Lorenzo isn't hindered by his aniridia. Lorenzo has high offense, high defense, and high mobility.


Gameplay

"Eric & Yannik X" is a platformer with four levels. To beat a level, the player must reach the rightmost side of the level. However, in the fourth and final level, the player must defeat Don Glaber before reaching the rightmost side of the level.


HUD

The HUD of this game appears in the gameplay of this game and shows how much health, secondary fire ammo, and money the player has.


Money

Money can randomly come out of enemies and wooden crates. Enemies always contain less money than wooden crates do. The player can collect the money.


Enemies and Bosses

Smallglaber: A Smallglaber is a small, weak, and plentiful gangster enemy. Smallglabers wearing a green bowler hat, a green jacket, and a green tie are more common and fall off edges. Smallglabers wearing a dark-purple bowler hat, a dark-purple jacket, and a dark-purple tie are rarer and turn on edges.

Tallglaber: A Tallglaber is a tall, gun-wielding gangster enemy only appearing in the second level. A Tallglaber has more health than a Smallglaber. If the player gets too close to a Tallglaber, after a few seconds, the Tallglaber will shoot a dark-purple plasma shot (that is smaller than Eric's pink fiery plasma shot and as big as Mateo's purple plasma shot).

Squareglaber: A Squareglaber is a big annoying one-eyed enemy only appearing in the third level. A Squareglaber has more health than a Tallglaber. If the player gets too close to a Squareglaber, the Squareglaber will annoyingly dash towards the player.

Don Glaber: Don Glaber is the antagonist, only boss, and final boss of this game. Don Glaber is an obese male "hu-alien" crime boss with light skin, bead eyes, and buck teeth. Don Glaber wears a dark-purple jacket with a dark-red armband on his arm and a dark-blue belt, a white shirt with a dark-blue tie, and dark-blue leg-covering-long-pants. Don Glaber is named for his baldness. Don Glaber has more health than a Squareglaber. If the player gets too close to Don Glaber, after a few seconds, Don Glaber will cast a dark-purple fiery plasma shot (that is as big as Eric's pink fiery plasma shot).

It's not TERRIBLE, but this game needs a bit more work. Feels like a halfbaked Mega Man clone with a Super Mario USA-esque selection of playable characters, but really the only character you'd want to play is Eric since he's not as slow or weak as the other characters.

I played as Yannik and I immediately feel like I made the wrong choice.
Bombs take way too long to blow up and I noticed they despawn if they leave the screen.
I didn't really have any reason to kill the dudes until they started getting completely unavoidable, maybe have them drop something?

I can tell you put a lot of effort into this game with all the art assets, but at this point I think it still needs a bit of work. The movement is incredibly slow even for the character who's supposed to have "average stats", making the platformer play sluggishly. The sound effects are also overly loud and high pitched, and there's no background music to make the game feel complete.

No need to rush with this, though, it's fine if you need to take a breather from development. Looking forward to seeing where this goes!

As for the slowness, have you played "Eric & Yannik"? "Eric & Yannik" played slower than Eric & Yannik X".
As for the overly loud and high pitched sound effects, I will add an option to lower the pitch of the sound effects. You can use the volume slider of your system to lower the volume of the sound effects.
