goofy ahh

Looks like a good first GB Studio project, although some things are bugging me.
1. The aforementioned buttery-slide movement. If it's engrained into the engine itself, then I'm sorry about pointing it out, I don't have much experience working with it myself.
2. The main character's hitbox is way too wide for the sprite you're seeing. I suggest you to trim it to 8x16 instead of the 16x16 used there, because, quite annoyingly, some of the passages are only one tile wide.
3. The presence of some out-of-place invisible blocks can throw many players off, especially in 1-5 castle and 2-3 sewers stages.
4. The soundtrack is a single instrument single tone tune, which I don't have much complaints about - getting stuff to sound good in a tracker might be quite tricky; except some of the tunes have a jarringly high pitch. Maybe you should do something with that.
5. The player needs some way of knowing the number of lives, so something about an overlay layer can be done, to my knowledge.
6. I suggest you to convey to the players that there are stompable and unstompable enemies. Also, that unavoidable spike enemy in 1-3 caves is peak level design.

Snakeskin598 responds:

Sorry, all sprites need to be 16x16, the movement is engrained into the platformer engine, the invisible blocks are quite annoying at times but idk. I might change the music but im mostly done working on this project for now. Overlays are extremely hard to do, with my coding experience i cant do them :(. If i update the game i will say that some enemies cant be stomped. thanks for the feedback!

I have a few suggestions on how to make this game better...
1. Make the gravity and physics actually feel like gravity instead of making all of the blocks feel like walking on ice unless you make a level around ice
2. Don't have the dialogue show after every death, the story is known after just seeing the dialogue once.
3. The sword looking enemy looks like a weapon to pick up and I died a few times not knowing it was a hazard

Overall the game has potential but you need to do alot more work making it feel better. I hope this feedback helps!

Snakeskin598 responds:

1: I cant change the engine I'm using, so that would be impossible.
2: maybe I'll change that bc its annoying
3: I'm gonna add a texture update to fix that. Maybe for #1 I could change the players movement speed.

Losing an HP freezes you and you don't have time to go away before you lose another HP
Also stage 3 I can't see my character, I walked a little bit and it said "YOU DIED", I guess I'm somewhere I shouldn't be

But fun game !!!

Snakeskin598 responds:

you aren't supposed to see your character there, that's why the dialog says its dark, but i see the confusion. As for the HP thing the freezing is just a limitation with GB studio so i cant fix that sadly :(. The end of stage 3 is also hard bc you have to climb invisible blocks that go diagonally on the walls to leave so just saying that now.

Edit: little hint: when in doubt, look for invisible blocks

Doesn't START on Chrome with Windows 10. Just blue screen without anything

Snakeskin598 responds:

Yes it does im in chrome with windows 10
