Bando's Comic Wizard

Do you have a long-form comic and want to publish it online, especially on Newgrounds? Well, wait no longer! Here's Bando's Comic Wizard! This utility allows you to embed your comic pages or even just images into a viewer ready to be uploaded to the Games Portal.

Smooth streaming comics and image viewers can be yours in just a few steps! The wizard itself will walk you through the entire process, but basically you number your pages, put them in a folder with your comics title, and drag and drop. The utility then let's you download a zip file that's ready to upload.

This is the same technology that we here at Montrose use to publish Paradise Slice, but now in easy to use drag and drop "wizard" form that's hosted right here on Newgrounds!

The viewer features:

  • Smooth streaming of pages using intelligent preloading
  • No additional image compression
  • Loading indicator
  • Mouse navigation
  • Touch navigation
  • Arrow-key navigation
  • Browser navigation (forward and back)
  • Compatibility with browser zoom-in and zoom-out
  • Bookmarking
  • "Right-click* image saving

In addition to being ready to upload to Newgrounds, the zip files the wizard produces are a hybrid format that's also ready to server from a generic web server (just uncompress into a served directory) and can be read by most dedicated comic viewer apps (you may need to rename the .zip to a .cbz). So it's a very useful for comic artists!

We're always on the lookout for bugs! Please let us know if you find any or have any questions! Happy Comicking!

Browser Requirements:

Bando's Comic Wizard requires folder (webkitdirectory) drag and drop support. Brave, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari have been tested and are known to work. Opera GX in unsupported.

This looks pretty cool. Is this more or less the standard way to put a comic or graphic novel as a game rather than individual submissions on the art portal? And if I use this, should I post the said 'game' (comic rather) as a gadget - other?

KittyhawkMontrose responds:

Hey! Thank you! Yup, this is a way to put your comic in the Games Portal so it has smooth streaming of the pages. I would recommend "Visual Novel" as the category if you're going to use it. That's what I've been using. And stay tuned! We've got more features on the way. :D

There's obviously a fair bit more you could to improve this, but as it is, this is a pretty fun little gadget to play with, and was an absolute godsend for comic creators before the Art Portal got multi-art support.

I'd like to give particular praise to Montrose and Dieswyx for the bursting-with-personality art and the banging Amiga-style chiptune - makes this feel like so much more than a simple comic utility.

KittyhawkMontrose responds:

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it! @Dieswyx really knocked it out of the park with the song, really capturing that Amiga-style as you said.

We've got more coming to Bando's! We're going BEYOND comics! 🚀

A good maker For those comic people

not recommend for making a collab gallery

KittyhawkMontrose responds:

lol But no worries, we got a Bando product coming soon that might help the gallery issue. 😁

I've been meaning to ask, just how many pages can bando handle? up to 999 or up to 99...somewhere between that? Or is there no limit?

KittyhawkMontrose responds:

Oh ho! Working on a big one, eh? It's limited by the upload on Newgrounds, so it depends on the file sizes and the RAM used by your browser. If they're small enough, you could theoretically upload thousands. :D

Everything was fine, until everyone, even the artists, got upset about The Nintendo 64 Collab Gallery because they wanted music and backgrounds, and the artists gave up to zero stars to the collab gallery just because it was made.

This has already become stupid, and I think people would throw shit at this game because of the above.

I prefer not to get involved in this controversy since I am new since January 19, and I do not want to get into controversy now.

I hope you are not offended by what is happening, but they will make another art gallery, but this time from a different game engine.

This has already become a circus or a zoo.

Also this a good concept.....

KittyhawkMontrose responds:

Hey, it's a good collab. All collabs have some drama. If they don't, they don't get seen usually! :D But no worries, Bando's for Everyone! We're gonna add some new features soon, so that'll help future collabs too. Take the criticism, hate the haters, and make good stuff. 💖
