A Hollow Heartbeat

Share Collapse

Author Comments

You wake up in a old shack on a island in the middle of a lake, hungry and with no idea how you got there, but this isn't about you, is about the strange shapes drifting along the horizon, the cold hollow presence infecting the half rotten wooden walls and a heartbeat you heard coming from somewhere.

Is that good? This was supposed to be my submission for Halloween last year, but i have no work discipline, so here it is almost half a year later, which is a good thing, sort of, because it just dosen't work as full on horror frankly :/

It may still disturb or at least entertain, i hope you like it, tell me how well it works on your device, especially if it dosen't.

Have a nice day :D

This was frontpaged, Thank you very much for that! Have a nice day again

Esta genial!me gusta mucho el estilo de arte que tiene! 10/10

Damn, great game! I got the endings in order, and the last one really threw me. Wasn't expecting tall bro to appear. Id love a prequel that delves more into Ben and the other man, or how/why you end up on that island in the first place. All in all, great experience, best use of an hour I've had in a while. Also bug fan of the art style. My only suggestion would be to include more flavor text when clicking on things you can't interact with. I also didn't understand why a radio suddenly appeared in the third ending, since it didn't actually do anything. Otherwise, again, great game!

Ngl
This was fucking sick as hell
and I especially love the form !?!?!?!?!!?!! Takes in the 3rd ending

I got Oblivion ending on my first try. Then Infinity. But neither ending felt... "right."

Until I found the Heartbeat. Then, everything fell into place.

The visions. The memories...

everything was finally Complete.

Heehee, I'm no writer but I tried my best to imitate the writing style!

This was a cool game! All three endings were very interesting. Now I know the three ways of dealing with the creature (to free it, destroy it, or befriend it). But I would also love to know the backstory of where this "creature" came from.

I like that the game is spooky, there are plenty of "surprising" moments, but no in-your-face jumpscares (I hate jumpscares.) It reminds me of the "Forgotten Hill" games.

My favorite part was meeting "the creature" in the third route. My thought process was as follows: "What's blocking the doorway... a body? Oh no... *look up* WOAH HOLY HELL - O? Oh, nice to meet you..."

I've been laughing reading some of the reviews. As soon as I realized you made the creature tall, dark-haired and polite, I knew many players would be wanting to date him 🤣

Lastly, the artstyle is very beautiful, not only the way you drew the creature, but all of the scenery as well!

Sorry if this review is too long. I hope to see more games from you!

Fakewisdom responds:

Tall, dark-haired and polite... Finally an explanation, even if a baffling one

I like long reviews, especially detailing memorable experiences or moments you liked, thank you
There will definitely be more games in the future, im just struggling a bit with direction

Good art design and atmosphere. Lots of interesting creepy elements and weird stuff. Also good programming and the game ran very well. I like the multiple endings and the addition of the checkpoints. Story needed work, and the story makes little sense to me. Seems like a good exterior wrapped around a nonsensical narrative. Navigation was painful and also many times nonsensical, in particular when I would go forward into a room and then immediately going backward would not take me back out of the room, it would turn me around within the room. That's confusing for the player. Also the "up" arrow to look at certain ceilings is also random and confusing. The worst was the forward direction in the pit. There's nothing to indicate that you would even be able to go forward in that case. There needs to be more clues for what to do and where to go and when we can do things and go in certain directions. I actually gave up on this game and watched it on YT instead and there's TONS of moon logic in this game. There's no reason I would know to do 90% of the actions in the game, because the narrative was so poor and the clues are so few.

Fakewisdom responds:

Damn...
I appreciate the honesty, especially the bit about navigation
Turning the player around and showing all 4 sides of the room is just what makes sense to me, but if your intuition says that should take you back to the last room instead maybe im not making it clear enough that you changed rooms? Either way it's something for me to think about

Also i blame your confusion on the walkthrought :|
Sorry :/

Seriously, is really hard to not alienate someone, what is intuitive to some is not for others, that's not an excuse, i could have explained things better, thank you for the review
