Reach the top of an active volcano before it’s too late.

Lex Temporis was made for Ludum Dare 51 and its theme “Every 10 seconds.” It features a hostile environment where fire rains from above and rises from below, and whose inhabitants seek to expel you from their territory. You must reach the edge of this inferno before the music ends and time runs out.

Here's the Ludum Dare page if you want to leave a rating.

How to Play

  • WASD/Arrow keys = Move/Select
  • Enter/Space/K = Attack, if enemies are nearby
  • Esc/P = Pause
  • Back = Unpause

Changelog

v1.0.1

  • Fixed a bug where parallax scrolling of falling ash wasn't set correctly
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes the player would switch back to an idle frame after being defeated
  • If there are no enemies nearby, the player now switches to their attack animation and stops moving for a moment like normal, but doesn't create a fireball
  • Made shortcuts a little wider and easier to walk through, as well as the path in the last scene
  • Added another shortcut to the second to last scene
  • Added a few more safe tiles to the last scene

I think it is pretty good for a Ludum Dare game.

But for newgrounds it could use some refinement:

Too many parts of the map are just as wide as the wizard making it easy to get stuck on the corner.
The Terrain is often hard to distinguish, I sometimes had a hard time telling the difference between passable and non passable areas as well as safe ground and ground which is about to turn into lava.
It would be good if the attack buttons would do something even if there are no Enemys, just to show the player that it is indeed working (my first time playing i thought attack just does nothing)
Some in game explanation would be nice.

It is a good idea though.

I wish you good luck and great success for your other game.

ImmanentDeath responds:

Thank you! I agree with all your points, in hindsight the wall tiles look too similar to ground tiles where lava rises, and I didn't know what to do with attack when there aren't enemies to target. I'll clarify that in the description, so hopefully that'll help.

I added those shortcuts last minute to make the game a little easier (and less linear), but I think player movement and tile collision is a little clunky. This was kind of a way for me to see how good the base mechanics are for the next game, so that's something for me to keep working on.
