Rabbit's Ascent

Author Comments

Brave the icy mountain in this tricky little platformer.

You play as a small rabbit on a journey to the top of a mountain. On the way you will have to fend off the cold using the campfires dotted around the levels. The ascent starts out simple and light-hearted, but the levels grow more and more dangerous as you travel further up.

This game was developed as practice for developing platformers. I decided to make a quick game before the summer so I could dedicate that time to a more interesting and well polished game, keep an eye out for that by thee way, I'm pretty excited about it! I'm sure it will be littered with things that could be done better next time, so let me know, cos there's a good chance that the feedback will help in my big summer project!

Short, fun and sweet, but I feel like it should have more to it, especially with the clever little campfire mechanic

FizzyLemon responds:

I feel like this game was originally just meant to be a short, full thing, but if I'm being honest, I could see myself revisiting this concept in the future! People seemed to like the whole campfire mechanic, so I feel like it could definitely make for an interesting larger project! Thanks for the feedback!

This was very fun to beat, and very cute! I actually wish it was longer haha.

The only thing I would improve personally is making space appear to be less tight, as I can often fit my head through blocks in places where the jump did not look possible. But otherwise the idea, the level design, and the challenge of this game were all great. Keep it up! :)

FizzyLemon responds:

Hey, thanks for the feedback! A lot of people have been mentioning that the game is too short, so I think I might revisit this one later down the line, maybe try and make it a large project in the future. Hopefully with the updated version I will have learned enough about game design to make the game genuinely appealing rather than just a short, barebones platformer. But I'm very glad you liked the concept and I'll definitely revisit it in the future!

These aren't comments. These are reviews. I'd recommend setting up an official scoreboard system in the Newgrounds API. Otherwise you'd get a ton of reviews spamming completely fabricated scores, which could violate the Review Guidelines and get removed. It's a mess.

Also this is very difficult and there's no checkpoints, nor do the controls work as well as Celeste. The campfire mechanic is a decent idea, but it's being put in a very barebones presentation.

FizzyLemon responds:

Ah ok, thanks for letting me know about the review thing, I'd definitely like to work on that scoreboard system. I feel like I could do with just having another go with this concept, maybe make it into a larger game in the future. If I do I'll definitely include a proper scoreboard system, thanks for the feedback!

I love how the controls feel and the concept is very interesting!

Music only comes from left headphone and jump sound comes from the side of the screen the player is on. Otherwise quite nice atmosphere and gimmick.

FizzyLemon responds:

Hey! Thanks for letting me know, I definitely need to work on implementing audio properly, I'm sure there's a way to fix it in engine, so I'll probably look back and update the game with fixed audio!
