Pouchie The Cat | Public Demo

Welcome to Pouchie's game! He's excited to play the game and have fun. This game demo features one full level with coins to collect, enemies to squash, and a building to reach in order to end the game. All game assets are custom made as a call-back to classic platformer games, while also keeping a black and white aesthetic, which matches Pouchie's theme (pronounced P-oo-ch-ee), as he was originally inspired by the old Black and White cartoons, popularized by Fleischer Studios and that other one.

Currently, the game doesn't feature a soundtrack, but assuming public reception of this game is positive, I intend to work on turning this small project into a full game with multiple levels, music, bosses, and a story.

Hopefully you enjoy this small project of mine!

Bugfixes:

  • Added controlled jumps. Player can now jump higher or lower depending on how long they hold down the jump button.
  • Added new keyboard options for running and jumping (Z for running, X for jumping).
  • Getting hit by Bootstrapper mobs will now grant two seconds of invincibility, where the mobs will no longer be harmful. The player will however still collide with the mobs, so trying to pass through them is not currently possible, nor recommended.
  • Increased walk and run speed for a more dynamic gameplay.
  • Improved camera functionality so that the camera will lower back down to the ground more.
  • Increased deceleration of character's walk so that he slides less when slowing down.

Movement is slippery, but I like the classic atmosphere.

ThatElfNerd responds:

Funny thing, I was actually going back on my research when I saw this notification, and was actually in the process of fixing that very issue. I doubled the rate at which he slows down. So now he'll slow from the walk a lot faster, but not so fast that it's too abrupt.
