July 2022 updated commentary:

This game, created in late 2021 and January 2022, is set in what I thought of as a possible future 50 to 75 years from now. The world lost fossil fuels and failed to develop a viable alternative, so transportation failed, industry stagnated, and the population declined due to lack of winter fuel and food. Like a Twilight Zone episode on nuclear war, it was not meant to predict the future, only to offer a cautionary tale of where we might be headed. I was not anticipating the events of 2022 and the looming winter shortages in Europe. If you find it difficult to think about these issues, I would suggest you not play this game.

January 2022 original commentary:

In a future world where fossil fuels are exhausted and humans failed to develop adequate alternative power sources, a team of adventurers are at risk of freezing to death in the mountains. A small village offers hope, but only if the team can find a missing treasure before night falls. Designed for a teacher professional development workshop, this short adventure/RPG uses gamified learning principles to teach vocabulary and energy concepts through experience. This is more a proof of concept than classroom material. One of the terms players will learn is an obsolete word of little meaning today, which is included to show the power of gamified learning. I hope you enjoy it.
