What a fascinating experience this was. A non-linear platformer like literally nothing I've ever played before.
This game has you drifting away on a floating island, in a sky where so many other islands drift, and your main form of progressing involves anchoring your own floating island to other ones in order to obtain their resources, including wood, rocks, iron, and essence from defeated enemies. Gathering enough resources then enables you to upgrade your own island, improving its movement and accessibility capabilities, so you can explore more of the sky.
There is this lovely zen quality to the act of slowly building up your island's capabilities, waiting for a useful floating island to drift by in a good position, anchoring it, gathering its resources, letting it go, and getting ready for the next one. The game does not last long enough for it to get repetitive, as the upgrades tend to not require too much stuff, and the ambient music helps us get into that relaxing meditative state.
Once your island is capable of moving around, you can visit three large islands that contain more traditional platforming levels. These are a nice change of pace from the usual resource gathering, and they can get pretty challenging, but never unfair. Each of them culminates in a simple boss fight, and once you defeat the bosses, you get this special resource that you will need for the final upgrades.
After unlocking the very last upgrade, you can reach the only other island in the sky that also contains a house in it, and without spoiling much, the conclusion can get pretty emotional.
I have never, in my life, played a game like this. This was such a trip. Original, interesting, at times relaxing, at times challenging, and just very enthralling overall.
