Debuting in 2008, Castle Crashing the Beard was a spoof on Tom Fulp's efforts toward what would become the smash hit, Castle Crashers. He refused to shave until CC was complete! Some say his beard took on a mind of its own... Today (2021), we've revisited this little gem to show how far we've come in 12 years! Can you unlock all 8 animal buddies?

With added support for mobile, gamepads, local multiplayer, and other goodies, hopefully this serves up new surprises + nostalgia. We also hope it continues to inspire others, as the gaming community has inspired us over the years. Thanks for playing!



Note: "P" to pause, "Y" to mute, and "R" to restart

Update 1:

  • NERFED SKELETONS (you wimps...)
  • pressing "A" to restart at death and ending works now
  • resend medals to NG on title screen
  • if playing single player with no controller attached, in-game prompt for super move says "Press A + S" rather than "Press A + X"
  • corrected instructions key-mapping in NG description
  • Fixed bug where laser warning would stay on-screen if you stoned Tom with "Rocky" while it was showing
  • hide CC body when grave spawns at death (unless final death)

Update 2:

  • Made in-game timer stop when toof is picked up (you're welcome speedrunners)

  • Fixed regression from Update #1 where turning Tom to stone could crash the game (black screen)

Update 4:

  • Fixed regression from Update #1 where, if the main menu can't connect to NG (to re-send medals) on replay, the game crashes

  • Update to pet helper name
  • Fixed ngio requirement crash on main menu

Update 6:

  • Huuuuge thanks to @mike (founder of the Ruffle project), the canvas image-rendering mode is now "pixelated" making for a much crisper visual experience! He also worked his wizardry to make the rendering pixel-perfect on high DPI devices (4k+, retina, etc.)!

Fun little game with a nostalgic feel both in its arcade-like presentation and as a callback to the original.

Overall another great addition to the history and stockpile of great media on Newgrounds.

I did make the mistake of going for all the medals. A no hit run is quite frustrating, most of it is learning patterns which is fine, but the skeletons reach is kinda ridiculous. For an arcade game it's fine, for one with a no hit medal? Not fine :P

Unless you have a special like shield or fireballs you can't deal with them without getting hit in most scenarios, they go for an attack when you are in thier reach which is before you can get them in your reach. Leaves you with trying to get an attack in from a jump and between any slight lag and even the slightly unpredictability of when they will strike you are highly likely to get hit before stunlocking and juggling them. This ended far too many no hit runs.

Using shield or something else doesn't help too much because it will run out by the time the second set of skeletons is summoned and you have no way of getting a full bar before that happens.

A small gripe over the slight frustration from that one thing but other than that it's a fantastic little game, great work as always guys!

EDIT: I already had the medals but figured I'd go back out of curiosity and yes indeed if they are seperated and you jump over a skele some distance away he'll attack and you'll clear it. This is just for anyone attempting the no hit run and are maybe being tripped up by the skele phase. They won't attack immediately behind them after so you are good to strike then.

Thanks for that prompt response though BoMToons! Also for making me feel like a complete dipstick that I am for not realising you could jump over them like that. :D

It's actually pretty simple: attack them from behind. You can jump high enough to completely clear their attacks. Try it out, you'll see!
