Animation in TvPaint and Aseprite. Compositing with code in GameMaker Studio 2.

Being suddenly stuck in quarantine and a big assignment went on hold. I decided to make an animated short fully in pixel art, to experiment freely.

Sooner or later I want to start making games, so I wanted a project to work with code.

I have a passion for 90s videogames (which I grew up with), but also like to be creative with certain limitations.

The story is a small part of a something bigger I'm working on in the future.

I took a lot of inspiration from matching elements in different religions, like Christianity, Ancient Greek/Norse Mythology and even some Egyptian myths.

Thanks for watching! Hope to see you at the next Elyon related work.

This is beautiful absolutely beautiful

Sijbren responds:

Thnx :D

Man is there anything Elyon Musk can't do?

I kid, I think he's a jerk but this is a great animation. It's super rad and there are no flaws. Super cool everything. Great work. Good job. Excellent. Very cool. :)

This was realy great, fully captured the feel of a 90s video game. I particularly liked how you blended several mythologies together seamlessly.

And as several others here mentioned, I'd play this game and based solely on the intro I'd be expecting some sort of fantasy civ 4x type thing or something akin to populous.

Sijbren responds:

Glad you liked it, we will see what the future brings

Wow this is amazing!

This is one of the most beautiful things I've seen in a long time. Bravo!

Sijbren responds:

Thank you so much!
