this game is pretty good, but sadly its not dark souls

A nice fun platformer. There's a lot of room for improvements, especially the camera scrolling that feels too fast. It could also benefit from a timer or something that encourages people to replay. It's definitely got potential though!

It's definitely rough around the edges, but the game itself plays just fine despite the jank. You can definitely do far better just with these assets alone, but the fact is more good than bad - even the basic ideas here could have been used extremely well given design, and I count that as a win.

My biggest issue here is honestly the camera's mechanics. The game feels stop and go because that's exactly what you're forced to do so that you can see what's coming up without bashing your face into it. Even doing that, the player's made to preform leaps of faith, and those almost always just feel lucky to have done properly. Normally, I'd ask you to make the screen bigger and keep the player centered when possible, but the camera's flow motions could actually work nicely as an intentional level gimmick if you wanted: make the camera outpace you a bit to see further ahead as you run, and give the player a reason to keep running for their lives to make a nice speed-based setpiece.

Layout itself is super basic and doesn't particularly begin to really show its potential until the very end. Shuriken ninjas shoot through the wood platforms maybe a few times on purpose, but until then they're stationed on cliffs where they can't shoot you as you off them from the weird angle. These guys alone could be interesting in an arena such as the end boss's place, letting them move a bit while shooting through wood platforms and making you wipe them all out, forcing the player to really get good with their aim while moving at high speed.

The biggest nitpick I can muster is that the inner cave background blends with your aiming cursor, making it rather hard to see where you're even aiming. That's just plain jank, and might have been done to just have a cursor that would stand out against most tiles. Maybe something with a bright rim, or just a color that's not used much.

Overall, this does certainly play as a first game, but the ideas here could have been expanded on to make it feel so much more better overall. Focus on those ideas you've got and don't be afraid to be creative in their use, and I'm sure you'll go far!

Schnekorino responds:

Thank you for the feedback,
This game was made for a game jam, so I had not much time. This may have lead to these mistakes, but I will work on it in the near future and try to improve it based on the feedback I've got now!
