Simple but fun game, and the old school graphics and cheesy voice lines are charming

fun" n something

Crazy taxi driver! My favorite Sega game, sonic is also my favorite! Well done!

$699.06 is my high score, and not at all perfect, so I reckon $750+ might be possible if you are able to avoid repairs/refuelling! I suggest everyone put the text bubbles on even if you're playing with sound as this way you can see your destination faster, and you get a useful reminder of where you're supposed to be going if you land on the wrong platform. Gameplay is very smooth and I love the voicework and graphics. It was nice the passengers had such varied characterisation/personalities (the pushy and confused passengers irritated me, made me feel like a "proper" taxi driver and reminded me to be super-polite next time I take a cab). When you get to your final destination, turns out your house has a lovely view, perhaps not worth the stress this job seems to involve though!

I had such fun playing this game, I'm surprised its ratings are so low and it has so few views and reviews. Wonder if people didn't wait for everything to load. Or thought the first two levels were boring and didn't realise how much variety there is after that? I love how there are two tutorial levels to introduce the basic gameplay (first the passenger and warp mechanics, then a second with more obstacles and the first repair station), but after that, until the levels are in random order until you reach the final destination. It gives the game a lot of replayability, particularly if you haven't mastered all the different level types yet. That's much funner than replaying a game again and again but getting stuck at exactly the same point each time. Great design choice.

The "rush hour" level is very challenging and reminds me a lot of the retro-game classic "Frogger". "Power failure" is a bit unfair the first few times you play it, once you know what the map looks like it isn't too bad. The "gale-force winds" and "minefield" and "avenue" levels are very tough but generally don't feel too unfair, once you have mastered the arts of flying in wind, moving mines out of the way and making them blow up against platforms, and asteroid-dodging. I have no idea what was going on with the black hole level, fell into the hole far too often the first few times I flew the level but it seems provided you aren't too slow when you pass it by, and you haven't aimed yourself at it dead centre, you don't go in. However, when you're near it and trapped by its gravity, so you're tugging to get away, there seems to be some knack to getting free and I'm not sure what it is. Sometimes a bit of button-mashing got me out, sometimes it sent me in. The answer doesn't seem to be as simple as just try to fly away from it, it feels like quick changes of direction help too, but I'm not sure how to do it in a way that guarantees you move away from the hole...

Couple of bugs: your passengers should only complain you're going too slowly if your taxi is still intact, it's silly when they do it after you've exploded! If you die on gale-force winds, then you can get a gale in Level 1 when you restart. Something glitches if you carry another passenger when you have picked up the hippo (and I think if you pick one up on the same platform as you drop the hippo off) - they seem to come onboard, state their destination, but the meter stops and they never disembark. I think it might be connected to what happens at the end of the level, when the last passenger (who wants the wormhole) emerges and any remaining passengers leave their platforms. I wonder if it would be worth resubmitting an improved version, I think it's terrible luck this got so little attention first time round.

ThePeterson responds:

Hey, thanks for such a thorough review :) Glad you enjoyed it. Yea, I really should fix those bugs, especially the hippo one. I don't think I've ever run into that one myself.

Nice game, but quite boring after a while. Try to make it much harder and unique.
