INFO: Syd Barrett is an odd character in rock music history. He was the co-founder of the legendary rock band Pink Floyd and decided to leave the band early on despite massive success in the UK and neighbouring countries. In parallel with their early success and fame Barrett developed an erratic behaviour that people often link up to his heavy use of LSD. He stopped showing up for gigs, tv performances and overall lost the spark in his eyes. The once creative leader, songwriter and allround charismatic spirit of Pink Floyd turned into a completely different person in just the matter of months. In this video we briefly look at his story as well as his last song with the band "Jugband Blues". The song has an odd similarity structurally to how Syd's music career started, moved forward and ended.

Not bad. However, as far as I know, Syd didn't abuse LSD to escape anything more than reality, he didn't use it as a way to escape the pressures of society or the band. He abused it because it opened his senses to other experiences, and I think that's probably what partially made him so creative. He was such a "fan" of its effects that he gave it to everyone. People were even scared of consuming anything when they visited him in his house because they were afraid he had put LSD in anything, even in tap water. Most probably, such abuse sparked his creativity and quickly deteriorated his mental health. And let's not forget that probably, he may have been predisposed to schizophrenia from the very beginning, before the abuse heavily accelerated the process.

lielikesmusic responds:

Thanks! I agreed that assuming he used it for "escapism" is a bit of a stretch. Most of the things we know about him (other than some of the things his family and friends tell us in interviews) can be reduced to myths i feel. Including what you say about schizophrenia because no doctor diagnosed him from what i know. According to his sister he was convinced he was perfectly healthy for some time. Anyways, thanks for watching. Are there any ways you think i can improve the animation/drawings in the video?
