Hey! To start this decade right, we believe Newgrounds should be ad-free for EVERYONE. For this to work, we need people who have the means to become paying supporters. For just $3 per month or $25 for the year, you can help this happen and get some nice perks!

For the month of March we have disabled ads on all E-M content. We need 78 people to reach our goal of 3,000 active supporters. If we hit that, we'll continue with a new goal in April!

Please check out our Supporter Upgrade and consider coming aboard!

You know what they say - never trust a space-snake.
After getting oil change and repairs done on my exo-skeleton, all of my systems are malfunctioning.
My body is doing things on its own. I can't walk without shooting or doing something weird.
What did they do? Leave some digital venom? Expect me to pass out and sell my biochips?
I don't wait. I'm coming down the snake pit. Someone's gonna pay for this.

OverWired is a retro cyberpunk side-scroller game.
You play using only 4 directions (D-PAD or arrows) and the rest of your abilities are wired to those keys due to the digital venom of the snake oil salesmen.
You must finish your quest to restore your space suit to functioning order.

There's a standalone version with some better performance and better audio here (Win, Linux, MacOS):
You should try downloading if the web version isn't running smoothly.

---- Instructions:
Play with either: arrow keys, WASD keys, or a gamepad.

---- Controls:
Right - Wired to shoot
Left - Wired to crouch (evades bullets)
Up - Wired to grenade
Down - Glitches everything on the screen

The glitch effects many objects, as well as augmented living beings, causing everything to malfunction or to change modes of operation.
Use it to your advantage.

All the projectiles are big black squares that cover the character, making the game unplayable. Fairly certain that isn't one of the intended glitches.

I'm on chrome

Alon-Tzarafi responds:

Damn. It works for me in Firefox and Chrome on both windows and linux.
Can you send me more info like GPU used and screenshot of the problem?

pretty good idea.

Really trippy and creative concept! Loved the way you need to navigate combat scenarios by making the best of your glitched-up controls, and thought the art and sound matched the theme wonderfully. The game does kind of toe the line between 'intentionally glitchy' and just 'glitchy' at times though, since it can be a clunky in ways that I don't think were intended. Still, kudos for the effort: we need more weird things like this!

Nice concept.

very good
