The Pumpkin Boy and the Snow Girl

Everything is packed up, stowed in the trunk and tied on the car roof. His family is ready to move toward their new home, but this little pumpkin kid may miss their old one more so than ever. And the move happens on Halloween. How cruel can his parents be, at least let the kid go trick-or-treating with his childhood friends one last time.

So here's another animation after year since the last time I uploaded.

Deadlines are a double-edged sword. After seeing the October Spooktacular post, I decided to push myself to make at least one animation this year. And by push, I meant dedicating every waking minute to production. It burns me out, but I get to achieve output at least, since I have reason to do so. This puts me in a love-hate relationship with animation. But this one's done now (or at least done within what's possible) so I can finally rest easy again until the next time my powers for cramming will be summoned. I hope this submission could still be part of Spooktacular. I was really aiming to get it uploaded before 31 ends, but it was late by ~2 hours. Curse you slow internet!

For this one I decided to have a simple story. Got some inspirations from The Nightmare Before Christmas, the children's storybook The Snow Lion, and most recently The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince. To be brief, I used the mending of the two seasons of Halloween and Christmas from TNBC , the basic premise and mood from The Snow Lion, and cutesy character types from the TLPATBP.

Before arriving at this current concept, the previous ones were very different. One had a war between pumpkin heads and snow people, and an unlikely friendship in the aftermath between the races. I scrapped that because there's too much backstory.

By the time I finished conceptualizing, the 1st week of October has already passed. So I had to make do with 3 weeks to storyboard and produce it. I originally thought of adding folly, but half way through the 3 weeks I realized I won't have enough time so having background music only will have to do.

I realized though when I was well into the production, that I started asking myself if this was really a Halloween animation. Halloween is spooks and all, and there's nothing spooky about this. Maybe its more suitable to be labelled as, "with Halloween elements?" But then I remembered something that I liked doing when it comes to submissions with themed restrictions. That I like to see how far I can stretch a particular theme to the bare point of whether its still within it or not. So I'm not going to thing to hard on it, and leave this as is.

Big thank you to Ryan Camus for allowing me to use his music for this animation. He also does compositions for game soundtracks. You can check more of his music here: http://www.ryancamus.com

Thank you for the teary eyes! Very wholesome animation with such a charming style :)

Beautiful animation! Very heartwarming :)

I hate so much when 4-5 minutes of animation with 0 dialogue almost made me cry.

You are a great person, keep it going.

i'm willing to bet my lunch money that the snowmen do celebrate Halloween, but instead of trick or treating they do TRUNK or treating... which is just as depressing. XD

This is what I want to see on Newgrounds... there's too much porn lately.
