Its a fun game.
I played through 3-4 levels. Its definetly fun albeit rough arround the edges.
The soundtrack was somewhat repetetive, but it fit the atmosphere of the game. Unusual controls, but you get used to them quickly. The blaster noise was "üncomfortable" While we are at it when you jump there is a pause in shooting, which might be a bug or an optimizing issue, but I took it as feature and it becomes a fun challenge to work arround.
The menu screen deffinetly needs some improvement. Better clearer crispier visuals. For instance you shoot with A key, but I had some trouble finding out it was the A key (the doodle of the A key in the menu was hard to understand). It could have been fun if our hero could jump and move in the main menu.
The enemies were interesting varied and in some cases chalenging. Good work on them! Sometimes they blended in with the bakground and you couldnt really see them, but they were fun and I had great time shooting them all.
The visuals always in any game can benefit from improvement. An advice that comes to mind is that when you are layering platforms - especially breakable ones you want them to stand out CLEARLY AS BREAKABLE. In one of the levels 3 or 4 you had some walls\metal boxes to destroy to get to the key, however due to the way they were drawn they looked like they were in the background of the action and werent really looking like you can interact with them.
Lastly the best feature of the game by far is the level design. I absolutely loved it. It is as open of a map as it gets on a 2d world. You have many and different ways to move arround the level and I loved that a lot. Sometimes you had some trouble figuring out which platforms you can step on and which you cant, walls you can move through and walls you cant, etc - but I find that to be part of the fun. (Trial and error amirite...? XD) The game with its level layouts lends itself VERY WELL to speedrunning. A stopwatch feature to count the seconds for each level will be a nice addition - you dont need any other scoring system.
Overal Great Start - would love to see more of your games in the future! Keep improving! Love the Logo btw.
