I'm actually surprised at how deep the gameplay can be, the level design is pretty neat and this minimalistic artwork works perfectly in conjunction with the rest of the elements. Plus, the controls are perfectly responsive and after playing enough run 'n' gun games I can't stress how appreciated is that.
Alas, the devil is in the detail. Some feedback to show the player immediately that their shots are connecting without tracking them would be a great improvement. Something like the enemies flashing in a different colour, a bit of recoil or some sound. Also the turret enemies firing to their rear while not even aiming at you breaks the immersion a little bit, maybe you could try mirroring their sprite when the player stands on their back, or something, I'm no expert.
Respawning feels somewhat sudden, too. You could have a little death screen or a respawn button in Hotline Miami fashion so it doesn't disorient the player.
All in all, however, I loved every second of this game. Can't wait to see what else you have in store!
Hey, thanks for the review! Yeah I originally wanted to have an animation where the turret would rotate and aim at the player.
Also, the re-spawning mechanic was kinda rushed. Was having trouble with the fade-ins and fade-outs.
I really appreciate the kind words and feedback.
Cool game and nice artwork! Good game so far, finally something different than the other games. Lots and lots of potential!
Thank you!
