UPDATE: Retro Space Ball outgrew the constraints of browser builds, and will unfortunately no longer be updated on Newgrounds. (Look forward to future prototypes of my other games here.) RSB was always built with PC in mind first.

You will FIND THE MOST RECENT VERSION OF RETRO SPACE BALL ON ITCH.IO available for windows PC.

What you see here is an old beta version (1.2.1) of Retro Space Ball when it could fit on a web build.

Though early versions had some issues,

(mainly with the controls)

it has come a very long ways through dozens of updates!

The feedback I got here on Newgrounds has been invaluable! Thank you everyone!

My next browser game will def find its way here!

While Retro Space Ball is no longer a browser game,

I'm always looking for more feedback!

SUPER FUN!

RikOclon responds:

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! The controls are getting redone very soon!

Really need to work on those controls they feel sluggish and unresponsive. Other than that it could be a promising game.

RikOclon responds:

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, the controls are undergoing some major changes. I feel like they were better in the alpha... I implemented controller support in the beta, which actually works well, but now the keyboard support is definitely lacking. The mobile controls are even more of a mess. I'll get this sorted as soon as I can.

The game originally had some slow controls, though since 1.1 has been much snappier, which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on if you're looking for a challenge.

returning after a few months to see the improved background and components of which I do not entirely grasp the purpose of but are still neat, added to the stages. an update to the balls interactions with the destructible blocks was also really good, in fact this caused me my first death in this game since first playing it!

the ball could be a tad bouncier and it'd be cool if it knocked the ship itself a little when it hits with momentum.

This game will likely continue to hold my intrest through 1.2.0 and beyond, no doubt the finished product will great.

RikOclon responds:

Thanks for your feedback! The controls are going to get some work very soon. I agree they are a bit buggy. Thanks for the follow! I'm definitely putting your idea of knocking the ship back in my notes!

actually pretty good, but the controls suck big time... dash on double press is bad because the controls are not responsive enough,. In my opinion: You need to make the ship more responsive so you have more precise control over it, AND add the dash on a separate key. Firing with up is also awkward because you have to keep it pressed the whole time. I would recommend either just leaving it auto-fire, or change the firing to another key and maybe give a bonus if you don't shoot, like charging a more powerful shot until you fire again or something like that. Visuals are good, but work on controls. good work.

RikOclon responds:

Thanks for your feedback! you can actually hold the space bar and press a direction to dash, but alas, that is buggy too. If the space bar is held too long the control gets stuck. I'm still debugging obviously and I will be working on the controls first. The problems occurred recently when I implemented controller support, which works much better than the keyboard (fix one thing and it breaks the other lol). I'll get it figured out soon.

I like your idea about an automatically charging shot. it does record how many shots you take as of now, but it does not factor into the score yet.

Graphics are really good. But the controls are a little slow and I couldn't understand what I should do.
Edit: played again, I saw arrows only to the sides. Maybe because the whole game doesn't fit my screen, so I can't see the score part (notebook 1366x768 14'). After realizing that I could dash, was able to advance a little further. Another thing that would be nice is other kinds of weapons.

RikOclon responds:

Thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely be working on the controls next.

I've been trying to work out a way to explain the game without text. I was hoping the arrows pointing up at the top of the screen on the first level would be enough to explain, but I guess it needs more. Could you go in to more detail about what part you had trouble understanding? It may help me to make the learning curve less steep!

Edit: I just saw your edit and reduced the height to 600 and it seems to play well on my browser, but I don't have a laptop to test it on. Thank you a ton for letting me know it wasn't fitting on your notebook! It should work for you now. Also... There will be a decent sized update soon!
