Damn that was pretty nice - I only played once and got to lvl 39 - so close, but they got to me too quickly.
So I've got a graphics issue and a gameplay issue. Once I pull the lever, I can't see the slot wheels spin and I can't even see what shows up at the end. It's just three blank white windows the whole time. As for gameplay, it was annoying that I could only shoot in 4 directions despite using the mouse to aim. Most multi-direction games let you fire any direction. So if I had an enemy slight above or below I could hit it. Maybe others saw that as simply a challenge. For me that just made it annoying, not inspiring to overcome it. Sorry to be all negative. I mean it's a nifty little game and I do like the concept of spending health for a chance at an upgrade. That's a challenge that I did like.
Sorry you had graphical issues, we haven't noticed that ourselves so it's hard to figure out what is going on. Thanks for reporting it.
The directional shooting limitation is one which we lifted from Binding of Isaac, which was our inspiration for this game. Admittedly we lack a lot of content that makes that system feel better, but we ran out of time since this was a game jam submission.
Thanks for playing!
This is an amazing concept, and it was executed brilliantly, too ^_^ I like how your actual HP is your currency to upgrade yourself, but you can't just blindly waste it since this game is centered around gambling, casinos etc. so you also have a high chance to win nothing :^ That's clever.
I also liked the gameplay. Despite you just fighting some brainless, big guys and some angry grandmas, it's still pretty epic and fun! :D
You did a good job at this game, it stays true to its theme and is just overall really fun ;^)
Thank you so much!
It's an interesting idea. It's pretty frustrating though, since the later rooms essentially just turn into DPS-checks where if you don't have enough damage you just get cornered and die instantly.
The randomness of the upgrades also doesn't help with this at all. You should consider allowing the player to push the enemies around for a short period after taking damage to make the game more fair.
Thanks for the rating. We have pushed a new version where you temporarily do not collide with enemies after taking damage. I hope this fixes your issue.
