Omega Demo/Trailer

Share Collapse

For our first year Design class we were tasked to design a "mock-up" videogame trailer. The game itself should be imagined and designed by us in every aspect. My choice was my story Omega, so the result is this isometric hack and slash game with heavy story elements and a lot of fourth wall breaking.

This isn't a real game yet since i lack the resources to fully work on it (as you can tell) but it felt nice to have this sort of sketch of what i would like it to be.
The main mechanic of it are the narrators (five figures at the end) that guide you through the blind across the game. There is a catch though, they all change the narrative of things to fit their wishes. So it is up to the player to decide what to believe.

Omega is a full fleshed story on itself i have been working for almost 4 years now, if you want to learn more about it and its characters i tend to post a lot about it on my instagram including short comics and story development:

I cannot thank the duo Ecstatic enough for letting me use their track for this project. And i totally recommend checking them out!

Great music, and great animation! Would be interesting if this was real. Characters seem interesting, as does the story, though a little more motion in the sequences would be good. When the eyes move and the face doesn't, for example. Some more background ambience. Nice mock-up; who knows, maybe there'll be actual games in the future too! Keep it going!

Really cool, though I'd say it could do with more of what the actual gameplay would look like, unless the idea was that most of it would be dialogue?

Also, I'm not sure why, but something made me think of Transistor while watching this? I can't tell if it's the music or the art style or both, but in any case, it's cool.

InkAntlers responds:

The game its mostly dialogue driven! Well, narration driven. Its mostly about exploring the city and finding out what happened in the 15 years you were gone and all. The trick is that each narrator has their version of the story. So its a bit of a puzzle figuring everything out. I was very inspired by the unreliable narrator trope its one of my favorite ones when it comes to writing.

But i do agree, now that its done i would have loved to add more gameplay sections, sadly i needed to do this in the spawn of two weeks so my time was kinda limited.
I will totally consider it if i do a second take on this. Maybe also show the narrator mechanic? I am looking around for voice actors still so one can dream haha

Also i love Transistor! I'm glad it made you remind you of it cause i consider it a VERY good game. I'm like a moth i like everything that glows so cyberpunk on itself is an aesthetic i just naturally get drawn to haha

Very sweet mock-up. The art is kickin!

It felt a little bit slow at the start, with the text speed in particular, but after the music drop when it showed the game "mechanics" I was sold super good on the concept. Officially better than actual game trailers out there.

Great job!

InkAntlers responds:

Thank you!
I wanted to respect the pace of the music but i might have overdone it now that i think about it more.
In my first draft there were no beginning credits at all and more sequences but my college is very strict about adding SOME credits (was part of the exercise) so i decided to place them at the beginning since it wouldn't really interfere much.
It was on itself a rushed decision so i see where you're coming from!
Thanks for the input i appreciate it.
