Here's a pokemon-themed arkanoid clone I created! It combines the traditional Arkanoid formula, the powerup system from Raiden, and the clock pressure of Crazy Taxi into an experience that's not quite as fun as any of those. Ha ha! But it was my very first game! So, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.

I've been working hard to try to beat expert. Haven't yet. This game manages to innovate breakout clones into something without a binary "long boredom/short chaos" binary by making this a choice. I find the screen resolution irritating at 1080p (and that the game doesn't scale with flash projector window size). The ice powerup is a notable exception to the balance in playstyle variety - the "blocks" being able to be destroyed by the balls makes it an option that is always leaking balls, as opposed to other high-level powerup stacks. Everything else is well balanced enough not to merit clear objection. More "non-consequential" powerup variety and approaches to retaining balls would be of interest. It's brutally difficult to complete, but it doesn't go all-in until Expert. I leave each session with the sense, "I could have done better." Obscurity is tragic when it's an advancement to the genre.

very fun game. browsing your other content i really enjoy everything you do (here and on FA). especially for one month it plays much better than all the other arkanoids i've found. plus the art is very cute. thank you for posting and i hope you keep up the good work

Thank you!! I had a lot of fun making this game and coming up with the mechanics. A lot of Arkanoid games are kind of slow paced or not interesting to me, so I wanted something that would feel both challenging and fresh -- where the player has a lot of meaningful decisions in which powerups they go for and how many risks they take.

This game its quite neat, and can be pretty challenging once you get the hang of it. It would be nice to consider adding some music and let the player know they can shoot more than once. Cool graphics and concept, Good Work!

Why Heracross though?

Thanks for your feedback, I agree music would be a good enhancement and adding some kind of a brief tutorial. For the most part I thought the concept was simple enough that people would just click the game and move the mouse and understand it intuitively. And I think most players will accidentally launch a second ball at some point and it will blow their mind. Ha ha. I think that's good enough.

But -- yeah, if I were revisiting this game, I might just have Heracross give a hint like, "You can launch as many balls as you like! Just keep clicking" if you clear a level with only one ball.
