J4CK-0-L4NTERN - A Halloween Themed Sci-fi Platformer

Share Collapse

Author Comments

J4CK-0-L4NTERN is a short halloween themed platformer where the only way to destroy enemies is reflecting the projectiles they shoot at you. As the name suggests it should be a reimagining of the legend of the Jack o'Lantern in a sci-fi setting, but not really.

Solid concept, but the shield doesn't always reflect when it feels like it should. The difficulty spikes right after you learn the basics, throwing multiple enemies with next to no warning. The boss fight was chore, as it had no pattern aside from spawning the explosive enemy every few seconds, had no set firing pattern for the turrets that I could see, the bullets would reflect in random directions, and running out of energy for the shield was a death sentence.

The core mechanic is just too finicky for the game to be fun. It's a problem when getting out of the first real room is difficult

It's pretty fun. It seems like that the game completely crashes when you die though.

UnsupervisedWoods responds:

I thought I fixed that problem; are you using the latest version of your browser?
EDIT: Whoops, just realized it's not possible for you to answer here (sorry, I'm new to this site). Can you contact me through private message?
