A Cracking Calamity

Father Christmas has arranged a festive tug of war to entertain his cervid staff. What shall be the outcome of this sport?

Made last year, but only remembered to post here when it was too late. Here it is for 2018!

Despite the fun novelty, I think I'll pass on shooting animation with an anamorphic Hypergonar lens again. (The focus shifts throughout, possibly due to gravity on the rostrum setup.)

Authentic, awesome and ambitious! I would love to see more!

Shufflehound responds:

Thanks!

Like in previous comments,
The traditional animation and drawings are excellent.

Not sure if this was intentional,
but at some parts, for smoother animation,...maybe add more inbetween frames.

Besides that,
This was a nice holiday themed short.
The classic animation made me feel like a little kid again.
Thanks for that:)

Shufflehound responds:

Xmas is a time for nostalgia. Glad you liked it! And yes, I should've done it a bit smoother at parts.

Love the art style! You don't often see traditional, hand-drawn animation that often anymore, which is great to see here. A fun little animation right in time for Christmas!

Shufflehound responds:

It gives it a Christmas card feel I reckon. Thank you!

fantastic choice of medium, paper work always makes the aniamtion more striking in my opinion.

it did get a little janky at times but nothing that wasn't easily understood, the scene with the remainders initially pulling the cracker was also really well crafted.
no expert on sfx but feel you probably were not too engaged in that area of this animation and could step that up a notch for the next project

Shufflehound responds:

Thanks. Hope to do more paper-y stuff in future. Anything to get away from vector lines.

I love what you can do with some lower frame-rate animation. It allows for stronger keys... in this case, REALLY strong and solid ones. I'm loving the teeth and skin wrinkles on the reindeer.

Shufflehound responds:

Thank you! If I had more time, I would've done some breakdowns. But I figured it would be better to spend all the time on the keys.
