Exlusively for newgrounds.com I've updated game!
First 2 chapters of campaign are completely unlocked, enjoy :)

home page: http://ascii-patrol.com
source code: https://github.com/msokalski/ascii-patrol

Game controls:
- WSAD / arrow keys (jump, crouch, brake, accelerate or navigate menu)
- L / Enter (fire or select menu item),
- Q / Escape (exit, cancel)

- Focus game with a mouse click first!
- You may use ALT+Enter to toggle between normal / full-screen mode.
- Enabling audio may require sliding volume level

Start playing by navigating to 'Play Campaign", activate it with Enter, and start with Enter once again.

The game play is very close to the original Moon Patrol game, but with several additions. Of course game menu is also added as Ascii Patrol is not coin operated, so players can choose, in example, a level to play, modify their Ascii avatar, check hi-scores, etc.

Have fun!

I played the original Moon Patrol when it hit the arcade, I got the cartridge for the 2600 when it came out, and I have it on a Midway collection for the PSX. Sooner or later I come back to Moon Patrol as its one of my favorite games, as I come back to this one again and again. I'd love to play the missing levels. I hope you'll come back and finish it someday.

I am removing my previous statement. This is really well made, didn't know what ASCII was as a kid.

Good game. I liked that all the art and animation in ASCII. That's not something you always see in a game, and shows how much work was put into the game. The mars rover/ patrol car chase is a cool concept. The menu is a little confusing, but will help get you into the game okay. The game could do with some sound though.

gumix responds:

:) thanks, sound needs to be enabled by scrolling game menu down to the control panel and adjusting volume slider.

Great work on recreating the game in an ascii format.

Overall good job. Exception: the opening screen (avatar/name/start/mission path) is extremely non-intuitive to navigate, and needs a much clearer explanation.
