You almost made me feel for the manager. That, is storytelling.
Stylistic choices aside, this is pretty much exactly what you will hear employers say during adverse times. Hurricane? Still open. Flooding? Yup. Entire city under a curfew? Open after curfew. No driving advisory due to 3 feet of snow? Open. I relate to this.
