Happy Death Day

Share Collapse

It's Fiona's birthday and Fido has completely forgotten! In a rush to prepare something for her, he causes a little accident. Luckily, Fiona has a good relationship with good 'ol death and rushes to Fido's aid. ...And it looks like its not only Fiona's special day...

This took about a month, and this time I tried to put a little more thought into composition of the backgrounds and the motion. First time with smears, first time using roughs, first time integrating vectors. Overall, I'm proud of how it turned out.

Time to work on some smaller projects to get a better handle on movement!

This was cute

Well this was kind of cute I think it was short though and that may have been the intent, but I do have to say that this was still cute and a good animation even as short as it was love the soothness of it all and cute characters, you should make more like this. alright so notbad on this one, This was notbad and gave off a few laughs but the only thing is it ended too short and the whole toon was over before it started, So instead of just one short piece, you can add other short toons, so that its not such a waste and besides that would bring in alot more quality to your work, and you can showcase more of your work besides just the one.

~~THINGS TO IMPROVE ON~~
As mentioned above. make it longer or make many short ones.

Nice vintage vibe on this one!

A little story issue I had is that at first I couldn't tell that the cake on the calendar meant that it was Fiona's birthday (I only got that later reading your description), maybe something like a little close-up with a picture of Fiona near the cake would've helped to clarify that, since I think it's quite relevant to the story. Another technical bit, but I think many of the smear frames could be even shorter for added impact.

Just had those few comments, but overall nice work experimenting with different aspects of animation on this one!

Thank you!! I'm definitely going to work on my visual storytelling for my next project, and I'm going to be a bit more thoughtful with my smears next time around. This was definitely a plunge into the unknown for me, and I appreciate the critique!

Well that ended well. :) Really thought this would have something to do with the movie with the same name, but it was refreshingly different. I like the style, and music, and oldskool vibe of it all - and a typical Hollywood ending to boot. :) Necromancy doesn't seem that bad after all!

DelusionalGinger responds:

Aww, thank you. :) In retrospect, I've realized the name probably wasn't the best choice... but! I'm glad you enjoyed nonetheless!

Kinda reminds me of cuphead and old mickey mouse cartoons. Nicely done. If you were to do something like this again, try implementing a more intricate story.

DelusionalGinger responds:

That was the goal! If I were to go back to these two, I would definitely try to create something with a little more depth. I appreciate the feedback!

This was simply adorable. I went into this expecting some sort of parody of the 2017 slasher flick by the same name, but finding an original cartoon that's a throwback to the Max Fleischer era was certainly a pleasant surprise, especially with the catchy music and rhythmic character movements. I certainly hope you do a lot more with Fiona and Fido.

DelusionalGinger responds:

Oh lordy, I knew that name sounded familiar. Next time I'm definitely putting more research into a title...
Thank you so very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!! I'm looking to do some more small projects to get a better handle on movement, but I have definitely been thinking about coming back to these two sometime in the future.
