Spin a web, eat bugs, earn points, and have fun!

8 Legs to Love is separated into six levels of just over two minutes each. The goal of each level is to spin an elaborate web, catch bugs, and eat 'em for points! Or you could just have a fun time, there's no pressure.

Arrow keys: move
Hold Z: spin web, the longer you hold the longer the strand
-> then Tap Z: place the other end of the web

I like spiders and I like Arachnophilia (Another flash game) I played this game to see what new layer it adds or whether it can hold my attention longer than the first.

UPDATE: And it does!! The separation of levels adds a sense of progress and recognition whereas with Arachnophilia is a survival game where I inevitably die and that is the only break the player gets. Each has their place, but this is a welcome spider game in my book.

Nice I like it.

Simple yet beautiful, I love it!

This game is very good - great mechanics and something that probably hasn't been done before.

I like how the levels represent that the Spider gets bigger and bigger with each new level. It is also cool that each later level has something unique - like water, a moving platform, wind and finally - gravity at center and not bottom.

For gameplay purposes I think that the game needs the fallowing features added:
1. Public highscores for players to compete with each other. How will I interpret my score otherwise? Is it high or low?
2. Some health and lives system so that there would be an actual punishment for getting stung or falling in water/pit.

These things need to be added for the game to have purpose and challenge. As it is right now it is basically just sandbox. It is still fun but not for as long as it could be. If these both things were added I would have given this game full five stars.

I agree public highscores would be dope, I've yet to figure out how to integrate them into PICO-8 but if I ever do I'll absolutely incorporate it into my games.

The game is very light on punishments, partly because the control scheme is so different from most games that it takes most players a LONG TIME (i.e. basically the whole game) to feel confident with them. So punishing bad control feels really bad for lots of players. So I decided to omit and fail states, so players could get through the game with minimal stress. Perhaps a survival mode could offer the right challenge...

Regardless, thank you for the feedback, it's very much appreciated.

This game is a LOT of fun, but I just wish that it had an endless mode.
