It's a form that wears on his stamina and increases his speed and durability, but hurts his strength, it will be further explained later. The eyes are red as a tribute to Akira Toriyama's original design of Super Saiyan which appeared in an issue of V-Jump in Japan in the early 90's, depicting Super Saiyan Goku with red eyes
