Pokémon Go Apocalypse?!

Share Collapse

Firstly, I know this cartoon is a little dated now, but in an attempt to be more active on Newgrounds I thought I'd share it with you. I'd be happy to hear some constructive feedback too :)

I made this cartoon a few months ago, and wrote it even longer ago. It's about the concept of how society divided into Pokemon Go teams and I thought it was a funny idea that within a few weeks of Pokemon Go's release, the world could be a Fallout style wasteland full of raiders.

I am aware that Pokemon parodies are very "done" now, but this was a lot of fun to work on and I hope you enjoy it.

Technical stuff: This probably took me around 3 weeks to make. I could have added in some more frames and refined some areas of it if I'd had more time, but I had a bunch of commissions lined up, so I did what I could with the time. I also experimented with a few different camera lense colour effects which are perhaps a little inconsistent. All in all, I could have done better if I had unlimited time, but I did what I could given the time constraints.
I animated this in Adobe Flash Professional CS6.

Thank you, and please feel free to leave constructive feedback :)
I'm always eager to improve!

Crunchlins responds:

^_^ Thanks for watching!

This could easily be a series. More please.

Crunchlins responds:

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

This is pretty good, but could use more Fallout and a better subplot with Team Blue/Purple.

Crunchlins responds:

Thanks for the feedback! :)

I appreciate it!
I agree, and given more time I think I'd have extended the script and added in a few more Fallout style scenes in. I think I kept the cartoon's world quite small really, but mainly due to time constraints etc. That's something that could be improved upon I think :)

This is animated well, but it feels like it lacks any focus or overarching style. The first bit with the raiders started to grab my interest, but then it's entirely dropped. We saw a quick vats joke which wasn't bad. Then the poke balls lying everywhere was okay too, but it felt like three disjointed jokes that were laid side by side instead of a fluid narrative.

Crunchlins responds:

Hey, thanks for the feedback! :)
I appreciate your thoughts and I agree! I think, given more time, I could have glued these things together a bit more smoothly in terms of comedy for sure!
That's something I'd like to work on in future - comedic flow!

Thanks very much for sharing your opinions! :)
Take care!

I really liked the animationand the concept of mixing pokemon go with fallout, but I was expectingmore concentration onthe fallout side than on pokemon. I think if the trainer had a fallout outfit and used his pipboy to select either a ball or raspberry it would help. Also the onixdid not seemlikeit was a fallout food depraved pokemon, but rather somthing normally found in pokemon go. Maybe for the next one you can have the trainer find a gym, but make it more apocalyptic. Regardless I love your animations, please keep it up.

Crunchlins responds:

Thanks very much for posting this feedback! It's very helpful to me! :)

I agree, I could have made it a lot more "Fallout"-y ^_^

Onix could have been mutated in various ways that would have strengthened the visual jokes for sure. There are a couple of reasons I didn't dress up the trainer to be more Fallout themed.
Firstly, I wanted him to be somewhat recognisable as a Pokemon trainer, but partly time constraints - I'd have loved to have drawn him wearing mismatched clothes and armor from the wastelands, but I only had a short slot in which to make this cartoon, and I ended up deciding to keep his design simple.
I'm not using this as an excuse, I personally agree that if the character design had been more like Fallout, the cartoon could have been stronger. I'm merely explaining why I didn't end up going down that pathway on this occasion. :)

As always, thanks so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it!
