It was a very honest conversation: the mother being supportive but clear about her fears and the son struggling to reconcile his fantasies with what warfare might actually be like. The contrast between the dialogue and the images does work well.

So back in second year of uni, I got the opportunity to work on a project for the BBC, and I finally got round to getting permission to post it outside of the BBC website! The conversation I chose to work on was this one - a mother and son talking about the son's dreams of joining the Royal Marines.
I think the main reason that I picked this conversation was just how much it dealt with the side of the army that I don't think a lot of kids who dream of joining really think about - things like death and PTSD. It was an extremely mature conversation given that one side of it was a 13-year-old kid, which gave this interesting contrast between the youthful idealism and the darker side of his ambition. And the heaviness of the conversation made it an interesting challenge to make the visuals lighter - even funny, where possible - just to balance the final thing out.
Either way, I'm proud of how it came out, and hope you like it!

Thank you.
