RetsuHarvest the Paperboy

Share Collapse

This is something I started in 2013 but never got around to finishing it until a few days ago. I don't even know how long it took to make.

Anyways, I animated some audio from a Retsupurae video, this video, specifically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BePgma_82-U

This was originally going to be longer but yeah, screw that. I might make more Retsupurae animations from Harvester about the paperboy, because it came up a lot and every time was hilarious, but I'm not sure if I can ever get around to it. I would like to make more Retsupurae animations sometime though.

Anyways, I took some time off from working on FrogMan and Pico to work on this so hopefully that wasn't a mistake and you all like this. Or not, whatever. Give me feedback or something.

Enjoy!

Making animation based on other people's audio really seems to be a thing huh. Didn't read the description at first, started watching assuming the plot would build-up like any usual animation, which it did at first, before turning into that random Paperboy killing scenario. Animation went along well with the script but eh... can't say I found it particularly entertaining. The dialog feels pretty out of context if you don't know what they're talking about. Good animation though.

Yeah, I think it's one of those things where if you're a fan of what it is (in this case, Retsupurae or Harvester) then it's more entertaining. I normally try to avoid these types of animations, as well as parodies because then you're only writing or just animating for a select audience, and I didn't really wanna finish this in the first place, but it was nearly done and I had started it in 2013, so I decided to finally bring myself to finish it.

Thanks for the review!

The world needs more animated retsupurae bits, so I'm glad you did this! The frame by frame in this was really smooth and you picked a good moment to animate. Never actually seen this particular playthrough, but this makes me wanna watch it.

artistunknown responds:

Yep, there definitely needs to be more retsupurae animations. There's like one other on NG I think and there's a few on youtube, so when I saw there were so little I knew I had to do something about it ;3

You saying my frame by frame is smooth really means a lot to me, 'cause your stuff is great. The animation in this was admittedly rushed because I had started working on this in 2013 and kept putting off finishing it and decided to just take a few days and finish it up, so I'm surprised how good it came out.

As soon as I saw this part of their Harvester playthrough, I instantly had to animate it, so I did but then yeah, I put off finishing it for nearly two years :3. It is a really hilarious playthrough, 'cause Harvester is a really messed up game so there's lots of great moments like this.

Thanks for the review!

Very nice animation, keep up the good work.

artistunknown responds:

Thanks!

Interesting. At a certain point it was blatantly obvious that you had taken the audio in its entirety and animated over it, which wasn't bad but felt a little awkward. The animation was a little inconsistent. You draw well, but some motions are more fluid than others. Perhaps it was more difficult, having audio to synchronize with.

It was pretty amusing seeing the paperboy die.

artistunknown responds:

Yeah, the audio was taken in its entirety, aside from the Zelda music in the beginning; that wasn't part of the original video ;3

I get what you're saying with the inconsistencies, I started working on this in 2013, where I got a good bit of it done and then touched it a few times in 2014 and finally finished it up not too long ago, so that's mostly due to me getting better with time and my style changing as well. The last half of this was done recently in a span of a few days, so the drawings probably aren't the best but I tried my best to make the animation look good. This probably isn't the best example of the best I can do 'cause of all this.

Thanks for the review!
