Red Huntress (part 1)

So! The Uni project this time around was a biggun for me, being completely new to after effects I had to create an original story around the theme of Red Riding Hood, I wanted to keep it simple 'n' Grizzly!

The method used was a mix of hand drawing, Photoshop, Dragonframe and a TON of Aftereffects.. all leading to what I hope you find a slightly more original feel to just digital means!

Originally I was guna have some extra scenes wherein Red is wounded but finds the courage to fight back and spurred by the tragic loss of her Grandmother, becomes a Huntress. Alas, time limits and deadlines and a LOT of learning meant I had to find a cut off point.

I hope to animate such sights someday! But for now I hope you enjoy!!

EDIT: Daily picks?? :D thanks P-Bot!!

I didn't know you did animation as well great job by the way keep it up.

Kind regards,

I like this style of animation I have not seen it before. I do believe the backgrounds could use a little color and diversity and the pauses are a little too long, but still I look forward to the next part.

Interesting mesh of styles and artistry! There seems to be more sliding, swirling, panning and splattering images than actual animation (the character herself a colorful exception) but it turned out an interesting and effective way to illustrate the story. Wish there was more to this! Really nice work with all the detail in those illustrations, and the special effects, the glow, the colorful dots floating around harmoniously, occasional vector images framing in the scenes. Keep it going!

Eggabeg responds:

Aye thank you! Time constraints were a big focus for the project with about 8 weeks from start to deadline plus some extra for final edits, I wanted a real polished piece to hand in but it was quickly becoming clear that full on animation (not allowed to use flash!) was guna be too much. SO, I took inspiration from the CG scenes from Diablo 3: RoS and Guild Wars 2 and decided I'd try mimic the feel of a moving world but with limited and quick animations actually taking place! The bits that work best are Red herself as each picture was arranged, printed, inked and motion captured back in but it was all getting a bit pricey and time consuming... for a Uni project at least! ;D

I like it. Has enough to be interesting, but keeps enough to make me want more. Unique animation style as well, can wait to see what you do with it.

Eggabeg responds:

Thank you! It will be a while until I get round to a finale due to current work loads but I cant wait to see where it goes either!!

Loved the combination of colours

Eggabeg responds:

Thanks! Twas mostly inks with some very saturated red and teal lights overlayed / hard light blended on top!
