2014: LT and MS

Heres my entry for Movie Jam 3 (Death Jam) The contestants had to pick an unusual death from a list of unusual deaths, and choose Leornad Tonui and Michael Shikuku. (2014)

edit: fixed an issue with the resolution, sorry about that.

(2014, Kenya) Double Darwin Award: Two men in Kenya were capturing selfies with a wild elephant when they were trampled to death by the irate pachyderm who proceeded to bury the corpses with brush. The two men were actually touching the elephant's face while taking the photos. Charles Darwin cautions, "When taking sensational selfies, remember the Photoshop option." The men, Leornad Tonui and Michael Shikuku.

Nice! ...I was wondering what this whole 'Death Jam' thing was all about -- very interesting, and a great, creative submission on your part. REMEMBER KIDS: SELFIES KILL. NOT EVEN ONCE. (Not to mention the whole concept will never stop being irredeemably narcissistic and stupid. EVERY selfie-taker should get a Darwin Award Nomination by default, IMO. Buuuut that's me...aaaand I digress...sorry about that.)

ANYWAY...I really like your 'simplistic' art style, contrasted with the slightly more complex, shaded elephant "Are you serious?" face, and then the return to the silly simple style at the end. And the music and sound effects, which while brief, are perfectly timed. You've somehow managed to evoke more emotion and interest with this not-even-a-minute-long cartoony dramatization of a couple of idiots tempting fate than some big-name big-budget Hollywood directors do with all the star-power and CGI they can throw big bills at. Do you know how awesome that is? (Hint: it's EXTREMELY awesome.) YOUR ART IS GREAT AND YOU SHOULD FEEL GREAT.

Anyway, hope you come out on top of the Death Jam ranks this year! Best of luck on all your future endeavors and another heaping, hearty congrats on this one.

Im glad you loved this little toon, Im thankful people like you liked it.

lol, that was pretty funny

megadrivesonic responds:

why thank you

wow the elephant was trying to hide the bodies? and people call elephants stupid. Everything works, it would of been 5 stars but the dramatic reenactment looked rushed, and sloppy like you stopped trying.

megadrivesonic responds:

Im still shocked an elephant knew to hide the body, not sure why wasn't like it would have been arrested but maybe the elephant wanted to keep its savana clean. Also the reason that part happened was time was running out and i wanted to make sure it got out on time without any trouble( already had problems when it first uploaded). I wish I had more time to actually tweak that to look better but when time is crunched you work with what you got.

Ah! Now where's Carl Orff's O Fortuna from Carmina Burana for the staring part~

megadrivesonic responds:

Off on Holiday i suppose.
