World Beneath the Surface

The World Beneath the Surface is a Puzzlescript game for the Ludum Dare 29 Compo. The game revolves around a society that lives above some strange secret, but nobody has ever explored it due to fear. One day, you decide to travel downwards using simple technology to unravel this secret for yourself.

Use the arrow keys to move and the X button to swap blocks. To clear each level, you must clear blocks by arranging them into rows of three or more in the amount of turns provided. There are fifteen levels in total.

Puzzlescript was used for programming, Famitracker for the music, and the Game Maker Sprite Editor for planning out sprites.

Note: the music for the game turned out very quiet for some reason, so you may need to turn up the volume to hear it.

It's a decent little puzzler. The gameplay works quite well, and is challenging thanks to the limit of moves you can do. The downsides are the story/theme and the gameplay felt disconnected, and it is somewhat hard to tell apart the cyan and green apart (though this just might be my monitor.). Otherwise it's good.

I'll repost this on your Ludum Dare entry page.

Very nice game! I like the originality and so-forth! Only major problem I have is that the font is kinda hard to read. I don't know if it's just me, but it would've been nicer if you could've chosen a style that's more clearer.

Anyways, good job! Keep it up man. :)

CrocaDino responds:

Thank you for the review! I wish I could change the font too, but the editor I used only allows for a specific 5x5 font, so the letters came out really poorly. Sorry about that.
