Hmm, yeah, this game is nothing fantastic. It's not the worst game I've ever played, but it feels rather dull.
The graphics are okay, I don't mind their pixelated style, as for the single song played throughout the game, it's not bad, but since it starts over whenever you enter a new level or die in a level, and it's also the only song contained in the game, it gets old and boring quickly. Also, the music just died out after a while, I don't know why.
As for the gameplay, well, the concept is simple enough, you traverse a stage to reach a cat and then get out, and it would work very well if done just a bit better than it was done here. It was not done in the worst way possible, but my problem with it is that most stages are either dull and void of challenge or variation, or just outright confusing, leaving the player lost. The controls are pretty intuitive and work alright, but it took me a while to realize I could triple jump, and I wonder if this was intended as an in-game challenge, or if the developer actually expected us to know that a priori. One funny thing that happens, though, is that sometimes, when I jump into a wall that's right below a ledge, the old lady apparently lands on an invisible platform, and I wonder if this is a bug, or if it was intended like that.
The stages, like I said before, are a little bit dull, too short and most of the time too obvious too. There are some stages that are pretty challenging, but not because it's hard to figure out how to traverse them, but because the hit detection in the spikes is too strict, one pixel of the old lady on the spikes is enough to kill her, and that cripples the player in many ways, especially when it involves having to time and control triple jumps in very specific ways. I was forced to give up on level eight, because there was no way in hell I could get across that moving spike after getting the cat, and having to start the stage from that frustrating initial drop eventually took its toll on my patience.
Also, there's nearly no comedy in this game, and I expected some, since the description mentions "a lot of laughts".
Some people will read this and say "oh, maybe RETRO games are not for you!", but no. One thing is making a retro game by adapting good ideas from the past, and another thing is making a retro game by adapting mistakes from the past.
