Hard Game nice work though
Very cool appearance, the 3D effects are so well made (and, from my experience, completely lag-less) it's awesome. It amazes me that you could do that in a Flash game. I like the mix between 3D graphics in the cars and the cartoony sprites in the sceneries, which makes this game look kind of like an early DS game, but with better resolution. The music is also pretty good, kind of Metal but Video Gamey at the same time.
One thing the presentation is lacking is that, during a race, the only thing we can hear is the music, because the cars don't produce any sound effect whatsoever, which takes away from the game's appeal a bit.
As for the game play, I usually like racing games that are as simple as possible, so I assumed I'd like this one, but the controls are just too annoying. The controls are extremely hard to get used to, because you look at the race track from a bird's eye perspective, so having to control your car with the directional buttons of the keyboard gets a bit confusing depending on what direction the car is facing in relation to the screen, and drifting seems to not help at all, but that's not what bugged me the most. The thing that bugged me the most is that you can't accelerate nor brake, which makes steering even harder, and the alternative to doing hard turns you provided (i.e. drifting) is even harder to control than the steering is.
Even with the hard controls, the game is still slightly enjoyable for what it is: a game about running around, dodging obstacles, trying to get ahead of your opponents, all in high speed with a few fun moments. I find it interesting how the different car stats (accel., max speed, handling) actually make a notable difference during a race (unlike many racing games I know), since cars with low handling but high max speed will be terrible at curves, but killing machines in speed, and cars with high handling but low max speed will remain on track in closed curves, but run slower. In general, though, cars with low handling are completely unplayable and annoying, since their only option for hard turns are the dysfunctional drift mechanics.
If only you made it so that we could actually accelerate and brake, and balanced out the unfair disadvantage of cars with low handling, this would have been pretty good. Giving it a 3/5 for a combination of decent (but not great) gameplay and pretty interesting 3D graphics.
The music and graphics are nice, and give the game a nostalgic feel. The controls are very hard to use, and controlling your vehicle is difficult.
Turbo drifters is quite challenging but at the same time gives me that nostalgia feel of the micro racers i used to play as a kid, i did horrible at the game but it was still fun and i did enjoy the gameplay! i had difficult drifting since when i did i would lose controll and spin to my doom. but overall the game can use some work but still hope for it! great job on working on this!
good, cant crash in wrong way
