CityScape is a city building game where you chop wood, harvest food and build buildings. As you do your population grows. You must manage their food supply. This is a very alpha version, I just wanted to see if anyone is interested in this type of game so that I can invest more time and make it even more awesome! In the full version I plan to have trade routes, city defense and battles. Let me know what you think guys. Also when it is complete I will release the full source code so you guys can use it!

For a half finished game that looks like it was made in paint, this is surprisingly fun. I can't wait for the next version :)

this game is great cant wait for the next one

While I was playing this game, my mind was swelling with negativity. I was subconsciously pointing out parts of the game that were unpolished and felt unfinished. Then I found I had been playing for thirty minutes. This game, while not without it flaws, is hugely addictive! I honestly had to put effort into pulling myself away from it!

Now to begin with, the lack of music is glaring. It is quite possibly the one must disengaging thing about the game. Playing a game in silence really does go some way to taking away from the immersion and engagement of it. Even if it was a looped beat consisting of four notes, it would still make for a better overall experience.

Another issue is the graphics. They're HUGELY simplistic. It's a great thing to create your own race of beings, but I couldn't shake the feeling that these were just poorly drawn humans. The background and ground itself looked like it had been made on 'Paint', and made it feel like a game that had had very little effort put into it.

However, there was also a huge deal to enjoy here. I really liked the idea of a food supply that decreases faster the higher the population is. That was awesome, and forced me to create more farms in order to cater for this fact. One thing that I would suggest, though, is placing somewhere on-screen, or even when you hover over the building's icon, a price tag for the production of the building. I found that instead I had to click on the icon to find it out, at times accidentally spending my hard-clicked wood for something I just wanted to know the price for. Speaking of the wood, I would also have liked a way of producing MORE wood. Perhaps by planting seeds for new trees.

Another thing I liked WAS the increasing population. To actually see different types of people rush into your city with the different buildings built was certainly a nice touch, which I genuinely appreciated!

In conclusion, the game was actually great! If the graphics were more polished, music added and other various changes made, this game could turn out to be a 4 star + flash game. As it is in this state, though, it needs a huge deal of work done to it. I'm going to be sure to keep an eye on you, though!

great review, I'll make all those changes for sure, glad you found some points enjoyable!

A idea is that to save your game.

This has great potential, but as of right now it's nothing special and very uninteresting but I will check back sometime later to see your progress because this could prove to be interesting. also someway of making more wood would be great if you added.

vSmashv responds:

I'll add more trees, and also stone for stone buildings which will be in the next one
