Strawberry's Break #1

Yeah, I know it appears like I submitted episode 2 before I submitted episode 1, but I had to pull episode 1 due to technical difficulties. Here it is now, though.

This started off as a submission to test how well animated characters work with stock footage but evolved into something much more. Please watch before voting and don't judge it solely based on the fact this has clocks.

I'm not an official clock, but I thought that I'd take a break from my usual Adrellia Village stuff and create more stuff like this. Please write a review :)

"Shock Horror" - Ren & Stimpy OST
"Tom Sawyer" by Rush

Well I liked the way this one turned out. However I do have one thing to note, sicne the redesign the cookie cutter accounts seem to be off the top 10 contributors which is great. I think this does have some truth to it though since before the redesign cookie cutter accounts had taken over the top 10 and it felt kind of demotivating since instead of showing users and groups who had taken ages to get up there, the cookie cutters had only taken a year or two to get up there in no time at all. It was a very sad time indeed.

The voices were speakonia as usual so nothing new there at all. The songs used were good and having Rush being added was great too. Seems fitting for exploring the world at the same time.

The story seemed to be that Strawberry Clock became sad over not having himself or friends in the top 10 anymore due to cookie cutters flooding the portal over the year and decided to go on an adventure for the time being to give himself a little break. Looking forward to seeing what part two has to show.

Overall, this seemed very well done so nice work.

There's a good reason for me reading the credits - you were playing Tom Sawyer, by Rush. Now that I've fulfilled my urge for it, I've gone and had another look at the piece and must say the following:

Get subtitles - I need to see what's being said by whom, since the voices were unusually quiet, during some of the dialogue. The plot had reasonable progress and I liked the message, as those cookie cutter games deserve to be removed from the system in my opinion as well. But that's beside the point, because I'm commenting on the piece itself, not the message, per se.

I'm not a fan of you using stock images within your pieces - it really drags the quality down. I know that it's a clock crew piece, but you don't have to sacrifice quality to make the flash quickly. Some of my favourites are Clock Crew, so check them out and see what you think. They didn't cut corners... well, not all of the time.

Thank you for your review!

I think clock related submissions that aren't from official clocks always have it a bit hard to entertain the audience, if it's not clockday.

I liked this submission. The story is pretty funny and I'm glad that more and more people are fed up with this "ilovegirlgames" stuff (speaking of which, I haven't seen a submission from those dressup bots in a long time. Maybe the redesign broke them?). And I can really understand why SBC can't take it anymore.

The scenes with the stock footage was pretty cool and I think adding the flash characters there can work quite well if it's executed in the right way.

Yeah, I thought I'd fit in some Newgrounds humor.
Thank you for your review!

It was somewhat short and not very funny, but I found it mildly entertaining.

Graphics:
Everything was pretty smooth and the art was decent. It wasn't very detailed, but this is to be expected from a flash involving Clocks. The use of video clips rather than animation for backgrounds near the end wasn't too bothersome. I suppose it would be time consuming to have drawn and animated similar backgrounds, but I still feel that it would look better than those video clips.

Audio:
I've personally never cared for speakonia voices, but nothing could really work better with an animation about Clocks. Other than that, I thought the music was pretty good, especially the song at the end.

Concept:
Though I didn't laugh or even smirk at any part of this, the concept of Strawberry Clock giving up and travelling the world is somewhat interesting. This part made me curious to see what would happen in part two, but I think parts one and two would work best as a single submission due to their short length. This one lasted only about two minutes and could have certainly worked fine as a larger file.

Overall:
Although the graphics and sound were pretty good, I didn't find this very entertaining. It's alright overall, but not great.

Clock Crew just ain't what it used to be

But I'm glad we got people like you around to continue the legacy of SBC. Loved the flash and uh...yeah can't wait for part 2 to come out! Keep going strong comrade

MistyE responds:

Thanks!
