- Would additional sound effects (ie, noise on punch, boom on explosions) be a good idea or would it add "audio clutter"?

It's nice that somebody found this to be oddly compelling, even after 13 years.
If I had to guess: I'd say it's either a lot going on at once requiring repeated viewings and/or a whole lot of rough-around-the-edges effort put into something that isn't familiar (my OC) that doesn't get a whole lot of exposure.

maybe if the sounds were a bit muted you could add them but might be risky
