Gun Haiku: Ronin

Share Collapse

Author Comments

In feudal Japan, one ronin mastered the art of bullet deflection in order to defeat the armies of the Mega Daimyo and rescue his beloved. This is his story.
Deflect bullets with your sword. Use chains of bullets to maintain your multiplier and chi energy. (X to use sword)
The ronin has a six-shooter that he can use to fire a chi-powered bullet through an entire rank of enemy soldiers. (C to use gun)
Press X or C at the tile screen to launch game.

Decent concept, needs more work.

The artwork is distinguished, and should be more evident in the gameplay. The gameplay, however, is repetitive and predicable. Collision is horrible in some cases, as the Ronin has to be right on top of the enemy in order to attack. It also needs a story that is described within the game.

I think I didn't stress enough that the main attack in the game is to use the sword to reflect enemy bullets back at them. I'll be sure to make it more apparent in the sequel (Possibly an arcade-style attract screen demonstrating the game strategy?).

Not clear enough

You should probably make it clear how you actualy play the game, Ithougfht the x was something on the ground and i didnt even see the c

failrate responds:

Updated the instructions to reflect how to attack.

In feudal Japan....

there were apparently guns?

failrate responds:

Yes, from around 1540 to 1640, guns were available and used in conflicts. After 1640, the Japanese archipelago was closed off to all foreigners, and foreign influence (like guns) were basically thrown away. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanban_t rade

Concept interesting but game did not load

All I could get to load was a static picture. It looks cool but since it is only a picture that is loading I'm gonna have to BLAM! Fix the bugs and please repost. The game concept sounds interesting and I would love to play it.

failrate responds:

Updated the instructions to reflect how to advance past the title screen (press X or C).
