Use Phaser (X key) to turn asteroids into rings.
Smaller asteroids turn to rings faster than bigger asteroids.
Torpedos (C key) break up asteroids.
Rings disappear after a short while.
Fly over rings to capture them.
Fly to catcher and eject rings into it.
You automatically warp to a new system when 'Rings Left' is 0.
Aliens will hassle you as you get deeper into their territory.
Capturing rings you money to buy upgrades for your ship, such as
Explosive thrust, shields, bombs, ring gravity, faster torpedoes, etc.

I like it, but

There are so many glitches. Annoying ones too. For instance sometimes when you start a level everything is blank and you can't move, but there are still things to kill you if you boost. And the glitch where I used to asteroid-to-ring bomb on lvl 27 and finished the level with -14000 money? Yes, that was a real breaker for me.

If you could fix those this would be worthy of a ten.

Also if there was a way to zoom the radar or just make it bigger for the huge levels, that would be nice. And if you made the ranks a multiplier on money that would both make sense and be cool. I made it to O-6 and aside from the cool rank insignia, nothing else happened that I could tell.

jasmowa responds:

Sorry about those bugs! I can see how it would be very annoying.

I have uploaded a new version that fixes the screen blank bug (the kamikaze logic for predicting player movement caused it), and the -14000 money (I was too aggressive in reducing game points when you got killed compared to your previous score)

Additionally, the ranks now multiply money. Fleet Admiral gets paid about 10 times as fast as a Spaceman Recruit.

Unfortunately I have no quick way to change the radar.

Thanks again.

Innovative and Refreshing

The retro art style and the music blend very well. The game play is smooth and the explosion effects totally rock. The controls are fairly standard for any game of this nature.... In this game the space rotates around the ship, which is an excellent technical accomplishment.

I like the varied enemies that show up as you play the game. The weapon upgrades are very well done and you can get some totally tail-kicking super weapons going.

Overall a very solid game. Excellent job!!!

Interesting Concept

I actually quite liked this game. It has an interesting concept and takes some patience. Once you learn the basic controls. Which the tutorial kind of just throws at you, I found it easy to control.

I enjoyed the music from it, although I think I've heard it before...

Overall it's not amazing, but definitely a fairly solid game to waste some time on.

Hey, I'm old school too...

...and I thought "oh great, another Asteroids ripoff" but was VERY pleasantly surprised. The fact that you survived submission with a score over 3 means that the silent majority (as opposed to the reviewers below me) understand and appreciate the game.

Honestly, graphics are quite good, interaction and AI is good, only real complaint I have is the cheat sheet coming up at the start and STAYING there -- but that's minor.

I originally just wanted to say "man, I HATE games with REAL physics because they're so HARD" but I see that, at least, has been done. Kudos to you and thanks again for a damn refreshing game.

Not "that" bad.

Okay, I don't think this is as bad as the previous reviewers claim it to be, but to each his own. The game does attempt to look good on the surface to draw the viewer into trying it; it does a pretty good job with this by using nice visuals and a "unique" premise. Granted, I felt the first 2 levels were fun. I like the idea of collecting the resources (rings are an odd idea) from asteroids and depositing them. But I must agree with stripez on this: the amount of money I received for my efforts was ludicrous. Enemies were very difficult, especially with clunky ship controls. By that time I became more frustrated than entertained; that shouldn't be. I immediately dropped 1 star when I discovered that you must use these "HeyZap Tokens" to purchase more upgrades.

Overall, this is an average game, with the potential to be above-average, which provides below-average entertainment.
