///Aldo and the Magical Pizza///

IF THERES ANY BUGS, LET ME KNOW. THNX.

This is a little test/game i put together - only took me 4 or 5 days.
Its a TEST, just to see what i can do with graphics and stuff as i hope to make a proper RPG soon.
Its quite short, but who cares! Its got a storyline, good soundtrack and good interaction.

Please give me GOOD feedback so i can make better RPGs in the future, (or possibly even a sequel to this.)

Its a little rushed.. i was hoping to get it over with quickly. Even though its a test, i hope you enjoy it anyway.

Special thanks to:
SpacLock, daniel-mcl, guilmonx - Your music is fantastic.
NAveryW - For inspiring me with his fantastic Nicholas's Weird Adventures. (1 and 2)

ARROW keys to move.
SPACE to enter houses and read signposts.

Buggy

1. Surely it isn't necessary to make the user press spacebar to leave the house he's in. It doesn't really seem all that important that he press it to get in, either -- why can't it just work the same way as it does when he walks off the side of the screen and shows up on the next one?

2. The sign that says "Bald Guy's House" got stuck on the screen and I couldn't make it go away no matter what I did.

3. It's sometimes hard to hit the little arrow on the conversation boxes. It'd be better to let the user page through the conversations using the space bar.

4. While we're on conversations, it's possible to get several conversation windows up simultaneously, and then have to very carefully navigate them.

5. When I got stuck (couldn't move) I right clicked and hit "play," which gave me some extra items and put me in a random house.

It's great but could be better

For the author: It's great for a rushed submission, it's a little flawed, but the flaws are just for perfectionists. Typos aside, it's great for a demo, I think it will be great if worked on longer for the full game. For the players: It's the standard trading system for rpg's, but it's still interesting. I found the townspeople's dialog to never be dry and textbook. Talk to all of them for the full experience. I loved the altered sign for Aldo's house, and that alot of people must have read it. Bottom line: Fun demo, can't wait for the full game or game series.

Couple of pointers

First of all, I'd like to say that this game looks like it has a lot of potential, and just needs to be worked on some more, but it's on its way to success. My first suggestion would be a way to tell what's intractable and what's not. Possibly something like a green aura around what you can actually interact with, at least something visible to tell the player that he can do something with this. My second suggestion would be to improve how the walls work in this game, I find myself slipping against stuff and going through others. I know it's just a test, but I'd be nice if you could fix that. Something else would be how you appear in the middle of the map each time you switch maps. What you can do to fix that is something like when you walk in a building, it does _global.Building1 = 1; and in the map that's the outside of the building, it has if(_global.Building1 == 1){ _root.Char._y = bla bla bla _root.Char._x = bla bla bla _global.Building1 = 0; This is an easy way to make you appear outside of the building after you exit it. Good luck with your project, and I hope I helped.

RDBFLASH responds:

Thanks. I tried:

_root.exit1 =5; (when entering a house)

so when i left i used this on the frame you come out in:
if(_root.exit1 >0) {
_root.man._x =;
_root.man._y =;

And strangley, it didn't work and after ages and ages of trying and testing i just had to place the guy in the middle of the map :(

Anyway, thanks for your feedback, i will use this in my future RPGs.

good start i guess

character sprite seem meh. but then this doesnt look like its suppose to be a serious rpg. and of course theres nothing to do at all right now. but i like the music if only it didnt restart when it enters that middle zone.

...the music

Its a bit complicated to enter houses...you have to keep walking into the door, and simultaneously press SPACE. Maybe you could make it so you only need to touch doors to enter buildings?

And the background music is giving me a headache (sorry)
