Shoot the Spider

This game is designed as a test for the direct comparision of different dynamic AI algorithms applied to a shoot 'm' up game as part of my third year project.

When you play the game, 5 different algorithms will be used to control the enemy characters for 30 seconds at a time, no lives, no score limit. When the game is finished, a comparative score of the algorithms is generated after the game is completed for analysis.

You move the ship with your mouse, and fire with the left click button.

Any thoughts on the performance of the algorithms is valued, either in the newgrounds comment section or in the guestbook provided in a link when the score is generated.

Any notes provided will help me to put together my conclusion, and by effect help me earn my degree, so will be valued.

Awesome for an experiment

Offline Controller score = -5
Reinforcement Controller score = -5
Genetic Controller score = -3
Genetic Controller 2 score = 2
Neural Controller score = -7

Btw maybe you should put longer time and faster movement and shooting too see how the program reacts to multiples shot. If you can make it so that it learns to see a trap that would be awesome!

Willybood responds:

That kind of behavior is a bit of a step up from what I was trying to do, but it is possible. Mabye for another experiment.

eh...

Its good...but theres room for improvement.

the plane doesn't move fast enough, and i find myself making last second dogdes only to have the plane react too slowly and get hit.

also, the plane doesn't shoot fast enough to counter this "dynamic AI"

Well...

I like the idea, but the game wasn't very fun, plus some of the strategies the spiders used were not very apparent. Still it is an interesting concept.

uh

it seemed to me whenever i fired at them directly most of the time they would just move to the side no matter what AI is being used, but if i just stay a little bit to the right or left and fire a bullet that will hit them they won't move out of the way and will be hit. like if you stand directly in front and fire it is tough, but just a little to the right or left they won't. try somthing more than just dodging left and right.

pretty cool

the graphics were a little bit 'meh' and it's not the craziest just best thing ever but hey, for what it is it's good. keep it up.
