This is the culmination of 8 months of hard work for my Senior Honors Project in Animation. I'm planning to pitch this idea as a series eventually and wanted to see what everyone thought of it. The music is composed by a music major at my campus and voiced-over by theatre students (they are listed in the credits). It all turned out very well and I hope you get a laugh and a smile out of it.

An amazing start!

From Miss Rich's creative mind comes a truly great animated piece.
I wouldn't be suprised if she had her own series on T.V soon

Nice!

Very well done. It was a rather simple, but had lots of style nonetheless! Great voice acting too! I hope you make it into a series!

Keep going!

I really like this because it's a very original story idea. You should definatly make a series out of this, for a while i felt like i was watching a show on tv made by professionals. keep up the good work! also, the voice acting was pretty good

It was okay.

Could be a lot better. Stared out okay and after that, it got REALLY boring. If you like to animate, then keep doing it. You'll get better if you do.

I couldn't agree more. And I plan to. I think the first film is always the hardest to complete... mostly because most people never finish...

Hmmmm...

To be honest I didn't like this at all. It was really boring and the animation just didn't make it pleasant to watch. The voice acting was decent, but the dialogue and scene direction made it seem very poor. I wish I could put my finger on what really bothers me about this animation, but somehow everything together just doesn't work for me at all. I would have to say if this did become a series there is no way I would continue to watch it. I also can't believe this took 8 months of work. Your color pallet is pretty bland (too many rainbow colors, not enough hues and tones. If your doing something that is dream related you should use color schemes to depict a change in mood and environment. Although, I can't say that there was much of a mood conveyed here. It was just kind of there) and having the whole dream take place mostly in the kitchen lent to the blandness of it. I'm also not clear on if this is suppose to be cute or not. Although the characters look like they are suppose to be cartoony, I can tell there is a serious undertone that you trying to get across, but it only comes off feeling out of place. Also the synth music doesn't really fit the cartoon. If you do synth, try to find an interesting synth sound to use that will be inherant to this cartoon alone. I congratulate you on putting together an entire episode and having a plan for the series. Very few people get that far. Just keep working the idea around. I see some potential here, but I know you haven't tapped into what is really there yet.

climbinggecko responds:

First of all, I want to thank you for being so specific! I really appreciate that you pointed out _concrete_ things that I can work on. I agree about the mood and tone issue for some of the scenes. There were particular instances during the cat and dreg sequences when I believe my color was effective and the rainbows at the end were intended as just that. As far as the time it took you have to realize that I'm doing this particular flash in a traditional style instead of the more minimalistic styles that you would normally find in a flash cartoon, which increases the difficulty of making the animation look credible (or even decent for that matter!). I have read many books on the subject by animators and they all agree that animation is not something you learn overnight. It is a life-long process and usually takes anywhere from 5-8 years to even be considered even a "good animator". Because of my film, I better understand the complexity of animation and have a deeper appreciation for the fact that it is a team effort.
