hahaha, that was fun

now i wasn't going to use this tutorial, just wanted to see what you had put in it. but the last part was really hilarious: "if you are really bad at math, and you can't even find the calculator at you pc: dexter will do it for ya." so i tried it:
- 4:3 ; width 4 gives height 3 so far so good, however, height 3 gives width 3....doh.
- 16:9 ; height 9 gives widht 16, however, width 16 gives height 8 ....doh.
- 2.35:1 ; height 1 gives width 2, width 2.35 gives height 1.....doh doh doh

pretty lame isn't it.

drunkin-russian responds:

Well, in theory it's logical.
#1 what are you doing with a flash at those dimensions anyway?
#2 Flash doesn't look to kindly at fractions, so i had to round them up, because if they are really that bad at math that they need to use Dexter's math, then they wouldnt know how to round things up.

and really, unless you're planning on making an animation that small, which is ludicrous, a small fraction of a difference in height and width, is barely anything, no-one will be none the wiser

sure

but not here in my cafe

drunkin-russian responds:

ok...

sound needed!

very good idea, and i myself have finally learned why my freaking old-ass VCR cuts off bits of the movies... thank you! haha.
anyways, you had some good info but it just seems like you only just touhed on the surface of the matter. i think a few examples of short movies that use square vs. widescreen to show some advantages would have been good. not to mention some sound in this little tut would have been very nice. so a great idea, but work needed.
(THE THUMB: slightly down)

drunkin-russian responds:

it's true we only touched on the surface, but we thought we should just include the info people would wanna learn, personally, this ain't a very entertaining tutorial (sound or not) and including a whole heap of info that people may not want to hear, would probably would of gotten it blammed. Maybe a "square v widescreen" probably could make it a bit better, but yea, i learned alot when me and ralph were working on this, so, i thought it would be a good tutorial for newgrounds.

widescreen learning.. not exactly hot material

dude u have too much spare time, was that a star trek scene u used as well? pretty boring, closed it when i realised it involved learning

drunkin-russian responds:

if you don't wanna learn, fine, screw society even more, just let people who DO want to learn, learn. Don't blam people's education

It's been done

I like widescreen myself, but quite frankly, it's been done before on lots of sites before, and I don't it'll be interesting to most people who like violence and....not..learning. So, it was good, but not for many others.

drunkin-russian responds:

to those people i say, "QUIT RUINING SOCIETY!!"
