Gumbi - Part 1

*** Check out www.lazy-nation.com for the quality version, baby!***

Back in 2002, we made this short flick about one of our favourite childhood role models... Gumbi.
We didn't submit it until now because we thought claymation was too easy compared to flash. But having seen the low quality of claymation on newgrounds we thought we'd submit some higher quality material so that people could compare the good with the bad.
We had to splice it in twain to fit the size limit, so make sure you see the stunning conclusion.
Reviews welcome!
Sequel possible, not likely...
Enjoy!

***UPDATE*** Many of you claymators out there should be interested: Way better quality version of this is now hosted on Lazy-nation! It is now compressed properly as a video file instead of a .swf. Check it out here: www.lazy-nation.com Awesome quality version, for less filesize (Sorry, the whole link seems to not fit, it pushes it onto the next line and fucks it up.)

GUMBY

Wow,that was a pretty good animation of gumby.Ive always loved gumby as a child growing up and when i saw the cartoon icon It grabbed my attention like a shock to the system. The camera wasnt all that clear so some of the images were a bit blurry. My favorite part would have to be the part where the block heads were making multiple clones and there was a naked women and at the end there was a Mini Block head.It was adorable! You should definatly make another one but this time perhaps u should try to get a better quality picture and make the characters a bit more detailed.

Chrispington responds:

Go download the video verison from www.lazy-nation.com, it's far better quality.

Um.

Okay then. It was alright, but it would have been better with sfx. but then, there's only so much you can do with the limit to the file size. But still.

nice job

i hope your still answearing comments. I loved this one. How long was this claymation, and what quality did you use. I'm making some claymation and its hard to keep it in the size requirment that i need for the length of the movie.

Chrispington responds:

well, from memory, it's at a constant 12 fps,(no stillframes....KNOX) and each half is about 2 minutes, I believe.
we started with ye olde avi, then exported each frame as a jpeg. THEN, using the power of Photoshop, we compressed each frame (not manually)
then whammed them into flash.

as for the size limit horror, I can only hope NG will eventually get a video portal, or allow larger file sizes for veteran users. The .fla + .avi horror also prevents submitting epic 3D movies, much to my chagrin.

very good clay animation

hey great clay animation very well made everything was great! but there was 1 down fall..the graphics were just well bad...it would have been awsome if it were beter. i say u should fix that part up..i make clay animations too it takes a long time to make and it can be hard at time..and well this was great keep up the good work!! but fix the graphics

Chrispington responds:

Welcome to the world of .avi + .swf

Compression can be your best friend, or your worst enemy.

good one

i honestly dont know why you didn't submit this a long time ago. claymation is actually quite popular if done well, have a look at -Knox- for instance; and i think we all liked to watch Gumbi back when we were kids.
i really liked this one.
