The Ideal Sonic Game 2008-03-20 23:24:09

Brief note: Not sure if this thread has been done (I doubt it), but this is not a parody thread if that's the case.

SEGA and Sonic Team has fucked up lately with most of their latest Sonic games. What do we have to do to correct this!?

Sometime in the not too distant future (I'm not a loser with false hopes, I AM a game designer as of now even), I plan on making a brilliantly executed Sonic game. One that all Sonic fans can get happy about, with all the elements of a good Sonic game that SEGA once proved they could make long ago.

And so, I ask for all of your input as to what you think would make this game even better.
And as a MAJOR Sonic fan and one who knows the old school Sonic gameplay rather in depth, this is why I have taken the liberty to make this game.

So NGers... Sonic fans... What do you think would make this game great?

No matter how good you are at something, there is always someone better. I'm living proof of that.

I think you're saying sonic with upgraded Graphics? Already done, I can't find topic, btu they redid Sonic 2 with 3d graphics, still working on it.

No this is going to be a side scrolling Sonic game. Unless you mean they made it like Sonic Rush...?
And this is not a remake but a brand new Sonic game.

I'd LOVE to see Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis) redone, but slicker, and better. With saves, more levels, easter eggs, etc. Sonic 2 rocked! I think I will go play it on my Genesis in a few minutes.

Response to The Ideal Sonic Game 2008-03-20 23:28:25

A Sonic game that is fast paced and YOU JUST PLAY AS SONIC.

None of this "play as Knuckles and search for emerals", "team up and play as three characters at once" and "play as Shadow and use guns".

And none of that "starting of really slow and eventually getting faster as the game progresses" bullshit.

I think it should be made my Nintendo. They did a good job with him in Brawl.

Well, you already know what I think about the idea. I say go for it, because you know the Sonic series better than most of the employees at Sega.

By the way... SHADOW IS THE AWESOMENESS!!!!!

Yeah, that and Nintendo is just really successful with Mario and Zelda, Im sure that if they team up with Sega they can produce a great Sonic Game.

Totally, if you're gay, Shadow is Gay, anyone who isn't Sonic, Knuckles, or Tails, is Gay. Also it's Dr. Robotnik, not Eggman.

Stop the flooding of new characters
Return of old voice cast (Sonic Adventure 1-2)
No more glitches
Smooth and consistent graphics
Decent music
No story or a good story
No more finding, fishing, or other boring tasks
No more stupid inventions by Dr Robotnik (seriously, he has an IQ of 300 and he can't make something slightly realistic, what the fuck?)
Better cam
Higher difficulty
Having the characters be a little more... mature
No more stupid dialogue
Zero involvement with 4kids
Better game play

I think that list covers pretty much everything.

Damn straight.

Return of old voice cast (Sonic Adventure 1-2)

Deem Bristow (old voice of Eggman) died so it won't be exact... besides I doubt Sega will be willing to do that for a fan game...

No more glitches

lol I'll do my best.

Smooth and consistent graphics

Definitely.

Decent music

No more shitty attempts at rock that's for sure. Goin back to the old days...

No story or a good story

Good point, yes...

No more finding, fishing, or other boring tasks

Hell no, that stuff was bullshit.

No more stupid inventions by Dr Robotnik (seriously, he has an IQ of 300 and he can't make something slightly realistic, what the fuck?)

Um I'll definitely give that some thought...

Better cam

It's going to be a side scroller.

Higher difficulty

Yeah, maybe a steeper degree of difficulty increase.

Having the characters be a little more... mature

Damn straight, I'm sick of Tails' whiny attitude.

No more stupid dialogue

Unless it's intelligent, no more dialogue at all... still haven't got everything planned yet.

Zero involvement with 4kids

FUCK NO (BURN IN HELL CHRIS THORNDYKE)

Better game play

Doesn't get much better than the old school Sonic games...

I think that list covers pretty much everything.

Yeah excellent list, I'll for sure keep all that stuff in mind.

I think we need a brand new canon for Sonic, since the current one is only headed for more disaster, and the Archie Comics canon isn't faithful to Yuji Naka's original concept. So we need a brand new series of Sonic games, titled Sonic: Mobius Legend.

Essentially, this will be a seven-part series which follows Sonic from his earliest heroic days to his moment of truth, where he saves the world from the apocalypse. No spin-offs or continuation of the series. Just 7 chapters, progressing in linear order.

In case you're wondering, "why seven?", the answer is that the story is heavily centered around the Chaos Emeralds. Unlike previous games, where the emeralds have been reduced to shiny trinkets that give you superpowers for a short time, the emeralds are truly rare in this series. In fact, the emeralds are so difficult to obtain, that one emerald is discovered per chapter.

Anyway, in each chapter, Sonic races through all the zones to face off against Dr. Robotnik in the end, a la classic gameplay. In each chapter, Sonic learns new moves which become essential in later chapters. As such, gameplay will become steadily more difficult through the series.

The story itself is essentially a retelling (not a complete remake) of the original story in the Genesis games and beyond (to a point).

Chapter 1: Sonic meets Dr. Robotnik and learns about his plans to roboticize all of the citizens of Mobius. The Blue Emerald is discovered in this chapter.
ZONE 1: Azure Lake - Requisite Tropical level.
ZONE 2: Marble Palace - Ruins submerged in the sea.
ZONE 3: Sky Highway - A highway suspended over a city. Similar to Star Light.
ZONE 4: Pinball Park - Pinball level.
ZONE 5: Haunted Mine - Similar to Mystic Cave from Sonic 2.
ZONE 6: Lava Powerhouse - Lava and machinery. Pretty self-explanatory.
ZONE 7: Cybernetic City - Robotnik's city and fortress.

Chapter 2: Sonic finds Tails, and the two become like brothers. When he learns that Robotnik killed his parents, he swears that he will see to it that Robotnik is killed.
ZONE 1: Emerald Island - The requisite Tropical zone.
ZONE 2: Mystic Forest - Towering trees and thick vines create a unpredictable path of twists and turns.
ZONE 3: Casino City - The high-rolling Las Vegas style city.
ZONE 4: Dust Valley - A barren wasteland with sand as far as the eye can see.
ZONE 5: Underground Palace - The ruins of some ancient civilization. Will some mysteries of the Chaos Emeralds be revealed here?
ZONE 6: Mechanical Metropolis - The two make their way across the oil-polluted ocean and invade Robotnik's factory.
ZONE 7: Aerial Pursuit - Sonic and Tails crash the flying warship. Then Robotnik escapes to the Death Egg, but Sonic follows him. The final showdown is included in this zone.

That's all I have for now. If you feel like expanding on the idea, feel free.

Yeah I know, but they did get a great replacement. Also I thought we were talking about how Sonic Team could make a ideal game once again. I thought you just mentioned the fact that you are a dev. for the sake of doing so.

In that case, just make a smooth platformer. And if you're gonna rip graphics, make sure they're graphically the same. (seriously, don't mix shit from Sonic 1 and Sonic Advance together)

There are so many things I want to say to you I don't even know where to begin...
But I will anyway.
Crappy unrelated storyline to the actual games. The Sonic SatAm show was very loosely based on the games. The two don't mix. That's like saying Pokemon Trainer Red in Pokemon Red Version was named "Ash" like in the TV show. He wasn't. Only noobs think that.
This isn't about writing a story for my game, just elements that would make it good. I'm writing the story. This one sucks (for the style of an old school Sonic game anyway), I'm sorry.
Now I'm thinking it'd be better off with a simple vague storyline like it used to be...
Want to know a way to make Sonic fail without Sonic Team's help? THIS! Congrats!
The only thing you got right was the style of level progression. Everything else fails.
If you want to discuss an actual storyline, then add me to your MSN or Yahoo IM. But this is not what I asked for.

My ideal Sonic game would be one that borrows elements from the previous games (three Acts per Zone, third Act being a boss battle, Special Zones for getting Emeralds) and applying them to 3D. Like Sonic Heroes, sans team gameplay.

This should provide a rough idea of what I have in mind.

Make Amy a computer technician like she was in the comics and not some annoying bimbo. Also, whoever disses fishing, well screw you. I like Big the cat.

If sega finally moved away from sonic and stopped recreating the same garbage over and over again. Basically the ideal sonic game wouldn't be an actual physical game but rather a non existing game as no more sonic games are better than actual sonic games.

Easy, take Sonic and tails, put them on an island, a wide big island with lots of place to run and jump and shit. Put checkered grass maybe (lol nostalgia). And just make him run around and battle devious robots.

Sonic should move at a normal speed and also you would have a button to enter the superfast sonic runnan speed. Then make ingenious bosses that are robotnik in a fucking huge robot, each time different, make weird fun worlds. Then you got it.

There's a hint, if you'd like to figure it out.

The best Sonic games were before it became the same as everything else. It started as it's own idea but became 3D and Sonic started talking so it became like every other game. It sucks now! The only good game with Sonic in it is SSBB!

The problems aren't that they aren't 2D, have too many characters, ROBOTNIK isn't his name (Which it is, they always say it is in the manuel and the guy calls himself that anyway. Eggman came first, though.) and aren't going at literally the speed of light whiny whiny whinyyyyyyyyyyy.

My idea up here was a 3D game, because I would too like to see a decent 3D Sonic game, a classic game a la MM9 isnt a bad idea tough.

Also kill the goddamn voice acting, you are right on this, couldnt just they make SOnic mute, like characters of the subspace emissary ?

Also yeah glitches and general stuff.

I always enjoyed the Sonic platformers...I've been playing one recently! Sega should make another Sonic side-scrolling platformer, because those were awesome and the 3D versions suck. Just with kick ass graphics.
