Why are you guys so bad at not being able to not do art?

I can open up flash or sai or ms paint and then just start drawing stuff. I usually start of with a curved line and then draw some type of character or face around/with it. Here is something I prepared just then. The only problem is that i don't really get many portal-worthy/finished pieces done.

I'd say there's a definite difference between just doodling and mucking about and actually creating a thought out piece. Yeah I doodle and such almost every day, what else am I supposed to do in class, but I haven't made any kind of art for just myself since I came up to school. It's easy for me to just sketch or doodle, but for the most part I lack the time and the will power to do any personal projects.

Look at my art!

Time seems to be a problem for everyone now days. My final pieces are pretty much just doodles that I've neatened up and added colour to. If only ppl were better at finishing stuff.

also this

You get to a point where finishing a picture takes up most of the work. The 90/10 rule, remember? Not everyone is content with simply adding colour to a sketch, man. Hell, my pieces themselves suck without the photoshopping, and I'm sure that many people feel the same way (about their own arts).

Also, that's actually not too bad a song, might want to consider finishing it off, well, better.

OH GAWD! I just moved into a new appartment yesterday. Turns out that the old guy who owns the building and lives down stairs is near deaf. Not that big a problem, if it wasn't because he cranks the volume up to 90 on his television and watches porn all night. Even worse yet he listens to this kind of music in the morning. Even louder!

Cloudy, for the most part we aren't talking about doodles, doodles come a lot more naturally cause you don't really think about them. It's usually the bigger stuff when people bitch about no ideas.

Yes, well then I am possibly in the same position as you guys kinda. I have plenty of ideas, I just lack the time/ motivation to finish something old instead of starting something new.

Rave on.

Ideas
I'm struggling with output, but not due to lack of ideas for big projects. I've plenty. The problem is I've a few existing ones which tend to pile up - I keep aiming to get them done, but when I try, I rapidly shift out of the art mojo.

Sounds like we're all having similar problems :'(

Maybe after a thrilling Friday Flood, we should have a Saturday Stickam. Everyone pile in and discuss/show the projects/ideas we're dragging our feet on. Maybe encouragement and excitement from others will be the invigorating push we need to motivate us to get things finished/started ...if not, we can just play a few rounds of isketch and be stupid/unproductive together! yay!! :D

Moving completely off topic here....
My school is currently undergoing negotiations of a strike. If it happens, from 12:01am on Wendesday (EST) the faculty will be on strike and I will not be having classes. Don't know how long it will last, or what, so we'll all just have to wait and see what happens.

Also off topic.....
Remember when we were discussing Eurovision months back?
Well, I came across this the other day, and it's a pretty solid song, but I just love the sax in it.
Related links about the epic sax:
Epic Sax Guy
Epic Sax Walrus - this is how I came across this song, and it's just an awesome video

i actually remember that song, eurovision comes up with some awesome stuff and some downright wierd stuff, i could link some past entries, but id rather not

ill leave opa and the other one to gumby

Although a extra break is always welcome, but won't that cause trouble for you since you can't earn credits?

It all depends on how long the strike lasts. We should probably be able to just adjust the school year to make things work out. My only concern is one of my courses counts as a lab writing credit. Apparently, if we don't have enough hours for that part of the class, then it wont count as a credit. So I'm hoping like hell we don't miss too much, cause the lab reports have been a pain in the ass for that class so far, so to have it all thrown away would be a real kick in the balls.

A shame really as I've been thinking of a few ideas for projects.

I've had a few strikes here, myself, although they never really lasted more then a day it isn't an unheard of occurrence - fact there was one earlier this year. No real reason to be worried, I doubt they'll actually let any of the students suffer and stuff.

Dunno if I have the same problem. In my case it's just laziness. I didn't do any drawing practices for weeks (except for trying fur and hair one day) and if it wasn't for the friday flood, I would not draw anything at all.

Yeah and after chilling for the sunday we can discuss everything in a Monday Mumble and after the regular Tuesday Timing we should try new things in a Wednesday Workout....

Just kidding, it sounds like an interesting idea

I thought the whole thing was lame. They went overboard on trying to make things seem cool. That violin part introducing it was simple and unflattering to the song. What was with the violinist rotating while playing? Added to that, there's the fact that an LED bow is hardly practical. You should never sacrifice sound for appearance.
As for the sax part, I'm not impressed in the least. The intonation is lacking, the rhythm and notes are simple, and I've heard so much better.

The year before, a violin playing and singing dude won, so they wanted to jump the bandwagon and put the emphasis on the violin.

And after Germany won with "Lena", there will be many young crazy singing girls with a wierd english accent, next year. JUMP THE BANDWAGON

Ok, so nobody seems to like the song.
But you have to admit, Epic Sax Walrus is pretty epic.

Well the song is not bad.... but not great.

You should check out, Ukraine's entry "Sweet People". At first I thought another blonde Britney.... but I was wrong.

I know she's not a perfect singer, but still.

Yeah, it is.

The reason I don't like the song is because I'm looking at it through classically-trained-tinted goggles. I feel like you shouldn't be getting paid to play the violin if you're not at least good enough to play something like this.

For the record, I'm not a fan of Mozart, but I love the way this guy does solos.

Anyways, it's not a terrible song if you like pop music. Just nothing spectacular.

Just gonna go on the record and also say that I'm also fixating way too much on the violin part. Sorry for that. I'm a violinist, so it's a big deal to me.

I feel the same disdain towards Yellowcard.

Hahaha, I hear ya man.
My cousin is a violinist, moved on the viola, and went to UBC for it, and now lives out there looking for gigs and what not.
